Politics

George Washington's one fear for our government, the one thing he thought could take this beautiful system and destroy it, was the forming of political parties. He was the only president to not belong to a party, and he was correct in his assessment. Ever since the birth of political parties, they have done nothing but taint and twist the words of the constitution.. done nothing but bicker, complain, and take ages to complete even the simplest actions. Instead of get things done, they mudsling and try to gain power. Note.. all parties aren't evil... there are some very honest, well intended parties in existence, but there aren't the ones that get powerful. Their influence is minimal.. and it is because they are honorable. The system is easily abused so that the greedy get power. Party Loyalty.. this is wrong. Both wrong for politicians and for voters. Politicians start to let their party think for them.. take their party viewpoints as their own, instead of developing their own opinions and joining the party that suits them. Also.. even when they develop their own opinions, they won't voice them for fear of losing party support. Parties are the only thing that supports most politicians, most put all their time into politics or are lawyers.. and while this makes a handsome living for themselves, it isn't near enough to run a campaign. There are exceptions to everything though.. look at Ross Perot. But then, look at Ross Perot, didn't get very far, did he? Party support goes beyond money. Contrary to popular belief, one voice does not make a difference.. even if that voice has a public office. If you don't belong to a party, you will get stifled. As I was saying before, this stops public officers for saying what they think is right, and causes them to say what is 'correct'. Anyone can see that this causes problems, it stifles change! One could say that changes occur anyway, which is contrary to what I'm saying. I say that you are wrong, things aren't getting changed! Old ways are being enforced! Enforcement of no change is not the kind of governing that a country like America needs. We are a constantly changing people, run with liberal minds. This is not to say that we are all liberals, far from it. That's part of the problem.. most of us aren't liberals, which I'm ok with, but what I'm not ok with is that the politicians enforce the views of the majority to attain votes.. and it works. They enforce morals, instead of ethics. This is wrong. First, the difference between morals and ethics. Ethics are the baseline 'rightness' of society. It's what is right and wrong basically. Morals are the specifics of what is good. Good and right are two different things.. for example.. it is not right to kill someone, it is not good to spit on someone's shoe. Sure, you can say the two are interchangeable, but this fits my meaning. It is not ethical to kill someone, but it is only immoral to spit on someone's shoe. There should be laws against killing people.. but there should not be laws against spitting on someone's shoe. Sure, it is a really asshole thing to do.. but if you outlaw spitting on shoes, where does it stop? Outlawing cursing around children? How about scratching your ass in public? Surely, in the land of freedom, I should be allowed to tell my friend that they are a fuckin asshole when I see them working in wal mart. And I should be allowed to fart when I'm walking down the street. And I should be allowed to say that the government is run by a bunch of monkey fuckers! But, I fear that we are slowly moving towards a government in which every decency is enforced, because people think that's what they want, and the politicians give in to get votes. That is not what they are there for, they aren't there to carry out our desires, we elected them because we want their mind to run certain aspects of our government.. If it were just for them to carry out our desires everyone would vote on every law. This isn't the case, people are too stupid to know what's good, it's the reason for public officials and the electoral college. We elect the wise.. well, we are supposed to. The way I see to get around this, is to not elect politicians anymore.. think of the two most hated positions in society. Politicians and lawyers. Yet, that is who we elect to represent us in the government. They aren't wise, they aren't smart, they aren't funny, the only things they have going for them is being corrupt and greedy. Unfortunately, the people who know this don't have anyone else to vote for, so the majority rules.. and republicans and democrats mostly run everything. A new party is needed. One that truly represents the people. Wise men, who know what people need.. sponsored by a wise company without greed. This seems to be the most likely solution anyway.
