MARK
Hello class, This is the start of lessons that we will discuss and ponder on. The basis for this is an exploration of the summation of the book of Ecclesiastes. The Preacher is one of my favorite books, partly I guess because it was written by a scientist and partly because the author did not accept everything that was told him but "tried the spirits". We Christians today I think are often guilty of that by holding the attitude that if it's in print/the preacher said it/everybody believes that, etc., then it must be right.Remember that ever since the veil was torn in two we are able to come to God directly and need no human to know the will of God for our lives. That's not to say that we don't need teachers and counselors for none of us have all wisdom. I'm just saying that we must practice discernment when we listen to their words. After Solomon had completed his experiment of life he came to the conclusion of the matter. That is: "Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man". it would be naive to think this was only referring to the famous ten written on the stones of Moses for God has expounded on all things. What are the commandments of God/ Several years ago while searching for a focus and direction for my life, I went to the book of Mark. Mark is written to the Gentiles and so it seemed the logical place to search for God's plan. I went through the entire book and highlighted the things that were direct commands (or directions if you prefer) for God's people. I skipped anything that was "suggested" or inferred. My purpose was to find the bare bones foundation on which to build the framework of a life. It was really awesome and wonderful when the work was completed (it didn't take that long really). I'm going to give you the verses that I highlighted and you can read them for yourselves. By the way, I am a King James Version man, That's what I was raised with and for me no other version speaks with as much power or beauty. MARK 4:9 5:36 10:14 12:17,30-31 16:15 Our lives are like constructing a home. First you decide you need one then decide what kind. The next step is to lay the foundation and erect the framework. Our foundation should be God/The word of God/the leading of the Holy Spirit, the example of Jesus. Upon this we can build as needed according to our talents, gifts and insights. It's the only shelter we will have until we move into the one constructed by Jesus. A short prayer; Father I ask now that this effort will bear fruit and that all things here and that will follow will be according to your leading. Amen
