Learning Disabilities
Leaning Disability
First, the meaning of the term "Leaning Disability".   If you look up the word "Learning" in the dictionary, it means "to gain knowledge or skills by study, to be informed and to memorize".  The meaning of the word "Disability", means "that which disables; a legal disqualification or incapacity; something that restricts; limitations; disadvantage.  Disable means to make unable, unfit or ineffective"
WHAT?
I sure hope my children NEVER look up the meaning to Learning Disability.
I like to refer to the term as "Leaning Able".   My children are in no way unable, unfit or ineffective.  So if your children have Learning Disabilities, train your mind to say Leaning Able.  They ARE able to learn what they are capable of learning.  They just learn it a little harder, slower and different, that's all.  Unfornately, the above way of find the meaning of LD would be the way my children look it up.  But the correct meaning is below.
Leaning Able
"Teach the children how they learn, not how you teach"
Parent, grandparents, family, teachers and friends should educate themselves in dealing with Learning Disabilities.  Here are some helpful links to sites regarding Learning Disabilities.  By just searching in your browers, you can find many links.
Don't blame yourself, you can spend alot of engery and time asking "What did I do wrong".   LD is a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding and using language spoken or written.
What is LD?
Two Parts to Learning Disability
Processing: Brain "processes" information differently than most other students.  Certain kinds of information get stuck or lost while traveling through your bran.
Discrepancy: Having a disbility causes a discrepancy between your ability and achievement.  This means that you are a lot smarter than you perform in school.  You are not dumb, lazy, or anything else bad.  You just learn differently.

Welcome to my Education Pages.  I've decided to add these pages to help with the understanding of Learning Disabilites.  I have three boys, and they have LD in some form or other.  First I was going to give you some of my experiences, but for the privacy of my children, I have decided not to.  Let's just say it's been very difficult for us all (mostly them).  But, in spite of all the difficulties they have with LD, they are the most caring and best people my husband and I know.

I have many suggestions, opinions, etc.  But the most important, is for parents and teachers to CARE.  Along with caring there is
communication between parent and teacher.

There were two wonderful teachers in my son's life that I have decided to dedicate a page to them.
