Research Interests:
1) Community ecology of freshwater systems: Diversity, distribution and abundance patterns; spatial and temporal factors determining community compositions; correlation of morphological features to habitat occupation (study of morphological adaptations to habitats).
2) Biotic (predation, competition and territoriality) and abiotic (environmental and habitat parameters, climate and geography) factors that influence structure of aquatic communities.
3) Impact of human induced disturbances to aquatic ecosystems and their long term implications.
4) Population distributions of species across geographical ranges using molecular genetic techniques.  
5) Biodiversity monitoring of aquatic ecosystems and conservation of these habitats.
(6) Genetic basis of behavioural traits in the zebrafish model system.

 
Other experiences:
1) Coordinating and conducting field studies for sampling freshwater fishes in streams of Western Ghats (as part of a project, "Western Ghats biodiversity network" headed by Prof. Madhav Gadgil)
2) Assisted in preparing a manual for taxonomic identifications of fish for local organizations and schools and also have helped in specimen identification (as part of the project "Karnataka Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan", of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, India, coordinated by Prof. Madhav Gadgil).
 
Statistical techniques and Packages used :
Parametric and non parametric tests on sample data; Correlation and regression techniques; Classical methods of model building using multiple and logistic regression; Multivariate techniques like multiple regression, ordination (PCA, CCA); Mantel test for testing correlation between matrices; cluster analysis; randomization techniques using methods like rarefaction, bootstrap, jackknife etc.
I have some experience with programming in the R and C languages. I am comfortable operating
in the Windows environment though I have also used the Unix operating system for programming.
Statistical software packages used: Statistica '99, SPSS, Cohort, Microsoft Excel, Canoco, Primer, Ecosim, and EstimateS.
