Cast&Crew-Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spiderman, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborne/Green Goblin, James Franco as Harry Osborne, and Sam Raimi in the director's chair.
While Spiderman has enjoyed much success over the years in comics, the wall crawler's silver screen debut was anything but a sure thing. But thanks to deft casting, great computer generated effects, and an enthralling story this movie rocks. Another important attribute to the success of this blockbuster was the hiring of Spiderman fanboy Sam Raimi as director. Instead of taking liberties with the story, Raimi sticks closely to the original Spiderman storyline.
With the story left basically intact, it was up to the actors to bring the hallowed characters to life. Seeing Tobey Maguire play Peter Parker, I can't imagine anyone else playing him. You can tell he, as well as the other actors, genuinely enjoyed making this movie. The same goes for the red hot Kirsten Dunst. She burns up the screen as Peter Parker's main love interest.
Two other characters play a vital role in the film. Norman Osborne (Dafoe), founder of Oscorp, and his son Harry (Franco). Dafoe nails his villainous role. As Norman Osborne slips further toward insanity, Dafoe's acting just gets better and better. Franco also delivers a great performance as the loving yet troubled son who just can't seem to amount to as much as his dad.
Thanks to Raimi's structured storytelling, this movie will please both diehard Spiderman fans and casual moviegoers alike. This movie will also likely be a vehicle to stardom for the young actors Maguire, Dunst, and Franco. Also the ending shows great restraint by Raimi in not letting Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson hook up prematurely. On this account Maguire and Dunst have already inked deals to star in two more Spiderman pictures. This is great news considering I already can't wait for a new Spiderman film.
