Cast&Crew-Tom Cruise(John Anderton), Colin Farrell(Detective ED Witwer), Samantha Morton(Agatha), Max Von Sydow(Director Burgess) and Director Steven Spielberg.
After Spielberg's last film, the schizophrenic A.I., I was interested to see what he'd do with this short story from legendary science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. Thankfully Minority Report lives up to its hype.
Minority Report, set in 2054, revolves around Washington D.C's pre-crime division. Three precogs help prevent murders by seeing them before they happen. This system works fine until Anderton, one of the two champions of the cause, is predicted to murder a man he does not know.
Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, an emotionally scarred man who has lost his son and strives to rid the D.C area of murder. This is without a doubt one of Cruise's best performances. He gives a gritty performance as the underdog in this movie.
Once Anderton finds out he is earmarked to be haloed(put in a prison where he will be unconscious), he flees the cops. Led by Detective Ed Witwer the cops track Anderton to a car manufacturing plant. Anderton narrowly escapes though in a concept Lexus(one of two made specifically for Minority Report). He then takes his plight to precrime creator Dr. Iris Hineman, played by veteran actress Lois Smith. In a wickedly creepy scene, she tells Anderton that the only way to prove himself innocent is to find Agatha's, the female precognitive, minority report.
In the days of precrime, criminals would replace their eyeballs with other people's eyes to avoid being caught. Anderton does this and in the process barely misses getting caught by robotic spiders. Following this he goes to the precrime lab to get Agatha's minority report. Things don't go as planned as he is forced to take her with him. This leads him to the hotel where he has been predicted to commit the murder. Without ruining the last thirty minutes, I'll just say that the movie twists and turns more than a Shakira music video.(ayecurumba!)
Spielberg has done himself proud with Minority Report. It would have been easy for this movie to dissapoint since it's dealing with the future but Spielberg delivers the goods in this superb thriller. I've already said my peace about Tom Cruise's role in this film but Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton deliver superb performances as well. Minority Report is easily one of the best flicks of the summer.
