US OPEN 2006 OFFICIAL RULES


1) Pegs/flags shall be 10-20 yards apart and must be staked out by club officers/hosting club and numbered prior to drawing peg numbers. Any complaints on peg markers positions must be put to the club officers/hosting club prior to the draw starting. (All anglers are encouraged to inspect the pegs at the venue first as no complaints are to be lodged to the organizers after an angler has drawn his peg)
2) The draw will begin at minimum 1 hour and 30 minutes before the start of fishing. Anglers may go to their pegs after the draw is completed.
3) During the preparation time competitors may set up their gear, test their rigs, and plumb the depth. No feeding/chumming is allowed during this time. Hooks must not be baited. All electronic devices like fish finders or smart casts are banned from use before or during the event on the match day.
4) Groundbait/chum may be thrown in by hand, by catapult, throwing sticks, bait droppers, bait cups, and swim feeders. Remote controlled bait boats are not allowed. No bait shall be introduced with a pole cup or bait dropper attached to an extra rod or pole while continuing to fish. Bait limits to be introduced to individual matches at the organizers/club officials discretion and notice to be posted with the rules for each event.
5) Anglers must be positioned not farther than 1 yard to either side from their peg/flag. Anglers may not move their peg/flag. An angler may fish as far as half the distance between their peg/flag and the pegs on either side.
6) Wading is not permitted more than 3 feet from the shore. Platforms and footplates must be positioned not more than 3 feet (measured from the front of the platform) from the shore (the shore is defined as the point where the water meets the water meets the bank itself)
7) Anglers will be restricted to the use of one rod or pole, one line, and a single plain hook at one time. An angler may have spare rods and poles assembled on the bank. Pole length limit is 13 meters maximum.
8) Ledgering, feeder fishing, and hair rigging are allowed. Any natural bait can be used except live or dead fish. Artificial baits, lures and jigs are not allowed.
9) A competitor must strike, play and land his/her own fish. No physical help is allowed. An angler under the age of 13 needs adult supervision.
10) Competitors are to start fishing at the start signal ( there is no pre-feeding time in any matches except the US team champs which is to be fished to CIPS rules) and must stop fishing when the end of the match is signaled, all lines must be immediately removed from the water by this time. Fish must be out of the water or inside landing net also out of the water at the end of the final signal. Any fish landed after the final horn will not count and must be released immediately. All anglers are asked to call "All in" to their neighboring angler when they hear the starting whistle and "All out" when the end of match signal is sounded to ensure the signals are heard by all
11) Anglers are responsible to keep their catch alive for the duration of the match. A keepnet or a carp sack may be used. Any species of fish may be weighed. Any undersized or out of season fish must be released immediately and must not be placed in a keep net or other receptacle. Trout or salmon may weighed only if the angler is in possession of a license stamp for trout or salmon
12) The Weigh-in must be conducted by the match organizers/club match officials. All fish must be released after the weigh-in.
13) Anglers will not discard their groundbait/chum in the water or on the ground after the completion of the match. Anglers will discard their groundbait/chum in their supplied garbage bags. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
14) It is the responsibility of all anglers to remove all garbage from their pegs. Garbage bags will be supplied to all anglers for the removal of garbage from their pegs.
15) In case of any violation of the above rules, where a complaint is to be launched, it must be lodged to match organizers/club officials in writing and stating the violation within 35 mins. of the end of the stop fishing signal is sounded, the decision of the match organizers/club officers will be final. Any complaints will not be heard or dealt with after this time has elapsed
16)Anglers shall at all times conduct themselves in a manner not prejudicial to the sport of match fishing

Pre-fishing rules

No pre-fishing will be allowed on Friday, August 4th.


Reserving your peg before the match

Anglers must reserve their pegs prior to the match. Peg reservations will be validated only after we receive your entry fee.

The entry fee for the 2006 US Open Championships is $35.00. ($25 for one day only)

The entry fees will be collected on the day of the match only from anglers who reserved their pegs and only before the draw - 6:00 AM August 5, 2006. No entry fees will be accepted after that time.

Point System

The section points will be awarded as follows:
first place: 1 point; second place: 2 points; third place: 3 points, and so on.
In case of a tie in a sector, the anglers will take the average points. For example: 2 anglers tie for 3rd place:
ADD 3+4 DIVIDE by 2 = 3.5 points.
Anglers who do not catch fish will receive points equal to the number of anglers in their section plus 1 penalty point.
The angler with the lowest combined points total after 2 days will became the US Open Match Fishing Champion. In case of a tie, the total weight will be used to determine the winner.
