CBA Match 10
Arrowhead Lake, IL. Nov 4, 2001

2. Tim Micinski 2.9
3. Mike Arndt 0.7
4. Derek Aniolkowski 0
5. Elise De Villiers 0
6. Greg Micinski 0
7. Jan Micinski 0
8. Penny Smit 0
9. Peter Wolan  0
10. Robert Wolan  0

Derek's notes: Half an hour into the CBA's final match of the season it became
clear that fish were present only on one side of the course and impossible to catch
elsewhere. While Paul, Tim and Mike were catching bluegills on pegs 1, 2, and 3,
the remaining anglers were staring at extremely motionless floats hoping for just
one tiny bite. I happened to be on peg 4 - next to all the action but also out of it.
I even tried to fish as close to Tim's swim as possible, still without a single bite.
There is always next season...
Congratulations to Paul Wells - great performance in difficult conditions.

CBA Match 9
South Ridge Park, IL. Oct 12, 2001

1. Peter Wolan 7.9
2. Elise DeVilliers 7.5
3. Greg Micinski 7.4
4. Paul Wells 5.4
5. Tim Micinski 4.9
6. Mike Arndt 4.8
7. Robert Wolan 4.0
8. Jan Micinski 3.7
9. Penny Smit 3.5
10.Derek Aniolkowski 3.0

Derek's notes: I started trying to catch bluegills and shiners but it wasn't happening for me. I tried the whip, then the pole, and finally waggler, all without much success. I saw that Greg and Elise fishing next to me were both catching steadily, so I decided to sit it out for a bigger bonus fish. As the results above show - it never came. But it did for Peter Wolan. Peter fished corn over groundbait at 11 meters. After loosing big grass carp in the first hour, Peter managed to land 3 lb. carp in the third hour. With some bluegills and shiners it was enough to win the match.

CBA Match 8

Lake Milliken, IL. August 26, 2001

1. Derek Aniolkowski  11.2
2. Greg Micinski 9.3
3. Peter Wolan 8.5
4. Tim Micinski 6.2
5. Robert Wolan 5.6
6. Mike Arndt 5.0
7. Elise DeVilliers 2.7
8. Penny Smit 2.6
9.
Paul Wells 2.5

Derek's notes: Lake Milliken is a deep lake with deep drop-off just 3-4m. from the shore. I decided to
fish close to that drop-off. I fed my groundbait on the top of the drop-off and that's where I started to fish.
I was using 3 meter top kit fished to hand with single or double maggot on # 18 Kamasan B611 hook.
I was catching small bluegills steadily for the first hour and a half. Then I started to fish the bottom of
the drop of with the top kit plus two sections of my pole. I used corn or maggot-red worm cocktails on #14
Kamasan B611. I caught 2 bonus carp, 1 catfish and some more bluegills. I think that bigger particles of the
groundbait moving down the slope attracted these bonus fish.

CBA Match 5
South Ridge Park, Hoffman Estates, IL. July 14, 2001

1. Peter Wolan 26.9
2.
Derek Aniolkowski 25.8
3. Robert Wolan 25.7
4. Paul Wells 21.8
5.

Derek's notes: Bluegills, shiners and crappies provided most of the action but catching one of the lake's grass carp was what made the difference. Four people managed to catch them, all four fish were caught using long pole with corn fished on the bottom. As for the small fish, they were caught with either whips or poles with maggots on the hook. Smaller fish were caught anywhere between 3-15 meters from the shore, grass carp were caught between 11-14 meters out in about 5-6 ft. of water.

CBA Match 4
Plumgrove Reservoir, Palatine, IL. June 1, 2001

Section A
1. Robert Wolan 12.5
2.
Robert Esbensen 7.5
3. Gary Fritz 6.9
4. Peter Wolan 4.9
5.
Penny Smit 2.5
6.
Greg Micinski 0.6
  Section B
1.
Derek Aniolkowski 9.7
2. Elise DeVilliers 8.7
3. Bernice Bradley 4.9
4. Paul Wells 2.5
5. Robert Andrews 2.3
6. Jan Micinski 2.3

Derek's notes:  Small bluegills were present at all pegs and they were providing some action
for everyone. However, it were the bonus fish that really made difference in the scores. Catfish
and carp were needed in order to get a decent weight. Bluegills and catfish were caught mostly
with maggots or pieces of chopped worm on the hook. Most carp were caught with corn but
not all of them (Gary Fritz caught on chopped worm). I spend the first 3 hours of the match
fishing long pole at 10 meters and caught about 40 bluegills. In the last hour I moved to 11 m.
and that's where my bonus fish came from: 1 catfish (2lbs.) and 2 carp (2-3lbs.).

CBA Match 3
Fox River Canal, Montgomery, IL. June 9, 2001

Section A
1. Gary Fritz 22.1
2. Derek Aniolkowski 18.9
3. Peter Wolan 9.1
4. Tim Micinski 8.9
5. Penny Smit 0.8
6. Paul Wells 0.8
7. Jan Micinski 0.7
8. Elise DeVilliers 0.6

9. Greg Micinski 0.4
10. Bernice Bradley 0.3
11. Mike Arndt 0.2

Derek's notes: Another very long four hours. The weather has been strange and I think
it's effecting the fishing...or the anglers. Only four people managed to hook some of the canal's
carp. It was truly a game of patience, with some anglers claiming that they only saw 1 or 2 bites
during the four hour match. I fed three lines: 6 meter pole with mostly corn, 13m pole with groundbait
and corn, and waggler with corn by the far bank. I didn't spend too much time on waggler - it didn't think
the fish wanted to be shallow. I had no bite for the first hour and a half, then I had three carp within 1/2 hour
on the 6 meter pole line that I kept feeding with small amounts of corn. I ended up adding one more carp on the
6 meter line and one on 13 meters. I had to start feeding more to get those late fish. Gary Fritz had 4 carp but
they were bigger then mine. Gary fished the pole at 6-7 meters and he also claimed that stepping up the feeding
seemed to bring the fish in.

CBA Match 2
Volcening Lake, Hoffman Estates, IL. May 6, 2001

Section A
1. Peter Wolan 15.2
2.
Robert Wolan 8.0
3. Michael Arndt 2.0
4. Derek Aniolkowski 1.4
5.
Gary Fritz 0.6
6.
Fred Rhodes 0.3
7. Robert Kraft 0.1
  Section B
1. Mick Thill 2.0
2.
Elise DeVilliers 0.9
3. Paul Wells 0.6
4. Tim Micinski 0.4
5. Greg Micinnski 0.2
6. Jan Micinski 0.2
7. Penny Smit  0.1

Derek's notes:  This lake is full of small carp but they did not want to feed on the day
of the match. Only two people, Robert and Peter Wolan managed to catch them; the rest of the anglers had to
scratch for whatever was available in front of them. Bullheads and small sunfish became
the main target but for most it was long wait between bites. I fed very little to begin
with and I was doing o.k. for the first hour (that's when I had most of my 1.4 lbs !). At the
beginning  of second  hour I started feeding more aggressively and that totally killed my swim.
In the remaining 3 hours I added only 1 bullhead and lost one carp which I reckoned was foul hooked.
Robert and Peter fished long poles (at 10-11 meters) with corn over groundbait.

CBA Match 1
Barth Pond, Downers Grove, IL. April 7, 2001

1. Jan Micinski 10.8

  Section B
1. Derek Aniolkowski 14.2
2. Peter Wolan 9.8
3. Greg Micinnski 7.7
4.
Gary Fritz 7.1
5. John DelMonte 4.9
6. Robert Kraft 1.7
Section C
1. Mick Thill 29.5
2. Tim Micinski 12.3
3. Paul Wells 9.7
4. Michael Arndt 8.7
5.
Elise DeVilliers 7.4
6. Penny Smit 5.8

Derek's notes:  It seemed that the numerous bluegills and shiners that live in Barth
didn't feed as well as they usually do. It was important to try to catch bonus fish.
Channel catfish were caught in all three sections, and winners of all the sections
all caught bonus carp. I found that double maggot was the most productive bait
and letting the rig move with the drift 2-3 feet away from the groundbait seemed to
work best for me.
