2007 US Team Championships - June 23-24, 2007

Fox River and Canal, Montgomery, IL

The 2007 US Team Championships were held on the Fox River and Canal above the Montgomery dam.  During the week
proceeding the event teams from all over United States and Canada started showing up to practice before the match.
Various results were being reported from the practice days, but overall the fishing was good with carp, catfish, quillbacks,
drums, shiners, and bluegills dominating the catches. It rained on Friday night and Saturday morning the river was high and
flowing much faster than in the previous days. On Saturday it rained steadily for the entire 4 hours of the competition. Anglers
from the 4-person teams competed in four sections; two of them, A and B, on the river, and two, C and D, on the canal.
On the river, heavy rigs were needed to deal with the flow and all competitors used long poles fished at 10 to 13 meters to present
their baits.  In section A, Mark Green used 20-25 gram flat floats to inch his rig through the swim. He won the section with over
30 lbs of catfish and carp. In section B, Attila Agh, also fishing heavy flat floats won the section with just over 21 lbs.
Feeding on the river was done with sticky balls of groundbait with gravel and/or soil mixed in for added weight. Baits were bunches of
maggots, worms, and corn.
On the canal, lighter rigs of .25-1.0 gram were needed, and feeding with small amounts of bait was working best. Alexander Rak
won section D with 34 lbs of carp, while in section C, Mick Thill won with over 6 lbs (carp, catfish, and shiners).

Day 2
On Sunday it was partly cloudy and not too hot. The anglers who fished the river on day one were pegged on the Canal and
vice versa.  The biggest weights of the day came from the canal. Mark Green, with his second section win, had over 48 lbs of
mostly carp in section C.  Peter Wolan won section D with 45-10, in front of Attila who managed 42-11 - another good weight
from the canal.  On the river the weights were not that high. Brian Moran needed 17-4 to win section A, while Elise DeVilliers
took the first place in B with 10-7.

Congratulations to all top finishers. Team 'Bogash 1' fished extremely well on both days and were just 1 oz shy of 200 lbs total
team weight. Three of their anglers also took the top 3 places in the overall individual standings!

for making this match a success.  We hope to see everyone in October for the US Open in Elkhart, IN.
