The Vienna Cougars Jr. Rifle Team will be using the outdoor rifle range on Monday evenings 4:30 til dark during the months of May, June, July. The rifle range is not closed but be aware that the 15 person squad will be firing on a timed schedule. Please plan accordingly.

Instruction in Olympic Rifle Shooting
All girls and boys between the ages of 12 and 17 years are invited to participate in a 10 week course on safe gun handling and 22 caliber position rifle shooting. The classes will be conducted at the Fish and Game Club of Vienna across from the Youngstown Airport. They are sponsored by the Cougars Junior Rifle Team, BSA Venture Crew 4840. Instruction will be provided by NRA certified coaches and instructors. The first meeting will be at 6pm on Monday evening Sept 15 and continue until Nov. 17. All equipment will be provided and the cost is $10.00 the first week and $5.00 per week thereafter. At the first meeting, copies of "The Junior Shooting Handbook" which cost $6.00, will be given out to new shooters. Each junior needs to have an adult sponsor with them for the first meeting. Young shooters will have the chance to work at their own pace as they learn gun safety and Olympic style rifle shooting in the prone, standing, sitting and kneeling positions. Air rifles will be used for the first few weeks and smallbore rifles will be used for the remaining classes. An informal competition will be held at the end of the instructional program. Young people who score well and have an interest will be invited to fill openings on the FGV "Cougars" Junior Rifle Team. The team participates in the North East Ohio Junior Rifle League where they have been undefeated the last fourteen years. They also compete on the state and national level. They ranked nationally in the top 10 percent of four position and three position junior shooting teams. The Cougars have been state champions for the last four years.
