Setting up a tank can be easy and very inexpensive as long as you follow
these instructions!
- don't buy your accessories from a unorganized aquarium or other!
- check where your able to place everything before you buy
- I say buy a tank with a lid and cabinet first there easy to look after as
they have in built lights filters and the top stops evaporation a bit
- check the fish you want are capable with each other and check what they
need to live
- the best first fish is goldfish of course as there easy to look after and
maintain although tropical fresh water fish are also easy to look after as
long as you dedicate the time and effort but beware some species may be hard
work and you may want to start with the hardier species.
- place tank away from the window always and never near a door or somewhere
that may shake the tank if there's company in the house
- once the aquarium is placed add the gravel (clean it first in case if
dirt) half fill with water then u can add some rocks and ornaments, leave it
for a days then add some plants if you want fill up to full and add the
conditioner then leave for an hour check it and if everything (pH and
temperature and nitrates) is all good you may go buy and add your fish
- fish may hide and be cautious for the first day just let them settle in
and feed them the next day (if the aquarium had already fed them that day)
- when adding fish many people come up with many different suggestions as to
how to add them and let them settle in I turn off the light and let them sit
in there bag for 15 - 30 minutes then I scoop them in and leave them for an
hour maybe maximum then I turn on the light and feed my other fish so that
they may peacefully check out there new home and surrounding and find
somewhere to hide till comfortable then I let nature take its place.
- never buy a fish that looks deformed or from a tank with a dead or
diseased fish your fish will most likely carry these problems with it and be
harmful to you other fish (no matter how cute it may be don't feel sorry for a
fish and buy it if its under these circumstances.
- and most of all enjoy your fish watch them feed them care for them and
don't flush them down the toilet its inhumane!!
More will be added to this section when I think of it!
