The Manual of Arms used in the 18th Century American Army was developed by Baron von Steuben to enforce order through out the ranks.
The training drill was used to teach the new soldiers how to fire the musket every 15 seconds. They would learn how to do this by repeating the drill for 3 to 8 hours depending on how good they were at it. Go to Combat Demostration
