"Shepherd's Calendar (Part 1 of 2)" [permanent link]. A story about a group of travellers who journey from star to star using intelligent alien 'shepherds' who have strict rules on conduct and morals. Things begin to go wrong when the shepherd begins to ask personal questions about one of the crew (who communicates via telepathy) and the pills used to enforce moral behaviour in the crew vanishes.

"Shepherd's Calendar (Part 2 of 2)" [permanent link]. In the concluding part of the story, the behaviour of the shepherd and one of the crew members becomes even stranger. Unusual things begin to happen to the ship and the telepath realises that the shepherd may want even closer contact; closer than she can give.
