Dr. Rev. Ezekiel Skinner

He lived a very interesting life. He left the church in Eastford in the 1830's to fulfill his son's position as missionary in Liberia...his son fell ill and passed away shortly after arriving in Liberia. So at 55, Ezekiel went there, became dr., rev., missionary and temporary GOV. Then he returned to Windham cty to continue his church/medical duties. He was also a botanist (I have 1 of his 150+ year old dried plant specimen.) While in Liberia he identified what he believed was a new species of animal, and received a certificate from a prestigious organization for his work.
