| First travelled to York with exactly 11 players, to take on a crack side in the NRSC, that apparently included York City Youth players. First were without Jeff Morrison, Dean Abbott, Paul Owen, Dan Locker, Mark Jackson, Lee and Andy Wardill and even manager James Howard. Only a slightly fortunate Mike Headlam free-kick gave First anything to shout about as they took a shock lead after Headlam's 25 yard effort curled into the top corner, when he was attempting a cross. But the hosts soon rallied back, stand-in keeper Mike Thomas struggled with a chip that he fumbled into his own net and worse was to follow as the York side raved into a 6-1 half-time lead. Adam Steele, who could barely walk after suffering a foot injury went in net for the second period but he was powerless as the home side dominated and soon hit double figures.
