FISHERLADS 5 FIRST IN 0
First battled hard but were largely outplayed by a strong Egton side at the Showfield on Sunday.

This result condemns them to finishing bottom of the Supreme Plastics Sunday League. Sporting a rare 4-3-3 formation with Steve Grisedale, Mike Headlam and Dave Webster all up front, First were going for all three points.

In a rare breakaway early-on, Grisedale was free on the edge of the Egton box but his shot was parried to safety.

Egton spent most of the match on the attack but a hungover Jackson and the First defence managed to scramble several efforts clear and were helped by some poor finishing at times from the visitors.

The match was goalless at half-time and with Jackson's head still recreating the Laughton's speaker system from the night before, Mike Thomas volunteered to go in goal with Bagshaw going into defence as Jackson took a breather.

Thomas performed well between the sticks, though was beaten on the hour mark when Trott missed a clearence and the ball was volleyed home.

Wardill replaced Trott, as First desperately pushed for an equaliser. Webster's pinpoint chip looked to be dropping in before the Egton keeper did well to tip the ball over.

Egton then added a late second, which looked suspiciously offside much to the anger of Bagshaw and the rest of the First In defence, the ball was tapped home from point blank range.

Jackson, C Headlam, Bagshaw, Wright, Thomas(A Wardill), Usher, Owen, Howard, Abbott, M Headlam(Grisedale), Webster. Subs not used: Tose, Trott.

Man Of The Match: Mick Bagshaw- Skilful and organised as ever. Led the side well.
