| FIRST INN 2 FISHERLADS 6 |
| First were eventually overawed by possibly the best team in the league on the Showfield on Sunday in freezing conditions. With the Fisherlads struggling to raise a team, the game kicked off as 9 v 11 in First's favour. However it is worth pointing out, that all 9 were regular Saturday League players, including 3 Whitby Reserve regulars and a semi-professional. But the numerical and wind advantage inspired First who raced into a 2-0 lead. Wardill scuffed his first shot, but buried the rebound after ten minutes. Then moments after hitting the post, scrambled home a second with 20 minutes played. However, Fisherlads introduced former Whitby Town & current Fishburn star striker Mike Young halfway through, and they pulled a goal back before the break. The first defence when to sleep, and despite a good block from Jackson, the rebound fell kindly for the striker to slam home. Earlier, Jackson did brilliantly to tip a goalbound drive onto his right hand post at full stretch. A tactical switch saw Dean Abbott replace Mike Thomas at half-time. 2-1 quickly became 2-2 after the break and First could feel the match slipping from their grasp. Fisherlads' class told as First heads dropped and seemed only a matter of time before the visitors took the lead. A freak goal striking the post and wrongfooting Jackson to creap over the line. Fisherlads rammed home the advantage then as they racked up six in the end as they monopolised possession and even found time to showboat as First could just stand and watch. Jackson, Thomas(Abbott), Usher(Hunter), Bagshaw, Tose, Steele, Owen, Howard(Trott), A Wardill(Snaith), Webster, C Headlam. Man Of The Match: Dave Webster- More than matched talented opponents. |
