| EGTON 7 FIRST INN 1 |
| First not only had to compete with atrocious conditions but also the loss of their top three keepers. Mike Thomas volunteered to go in net, using Cod's 'Teflon' gloves. Egton took the lead in the first 15 minutes, before Steve Grisedale hit a superb equaliser when he chipped 'Rusty' expertly from 20 yards. However, the villagers went 3-1 ahead at half-time, with the match being held up at precisely 11am for a minute's silence for Remembrance Day. The second half saw Andrew Snaith replace Darren Wright, and Mark Jackson went in net, with Thomas going to right-back as First reorganised. But this was to little avail, Mike Headlam missed a good chance on the break, but most of the time it was Egton's Smoo, Beever and co that tormented First time and time again. Jackson pulled an acrobatic reflex save to tip Smoo's low drive onto the bar. But there was only one team in it, and while First played reasonably well, Egton were just too good, winning 7-1 in the end. Thomas(Jackson), Trott, Bagshaw, Usher(Jackson), Steele, Abbott, Owen, Howard, Grisedale(C Headlam), Wright(Snaith), M Headlam. Subs not used: Webster. |
