| FIRST INN 3 DANBY 4 |
| First lost a game that they really should have won at a windswept Larpool Lane ground. The Showfield was adjudged to be too waterlogged for play and the game was moved to Whitby's east side. First were without Jeff Morrison who had work commitments, and Mark Jackson and Dean Abbott who were also absent. Mike Thomas was dropped to the bench with Adam Steele joining Rich Usher in the centre of defence. Steve Grisedale joined James Howard in attack, with Chris Headlam getting a rare start on the right wing. In monsoon conditions, Danby took the lead against the run of play. Grisedale missed two good opportunities and First In, sporting their Cardiff City style looked much the better side. Then, moments later, a defensive lapse handed Danby a second. First finally got their act together right on half-time when Grisedale was sent clear and the beanpole striker made no mistake lashing into the top right corner from close range. After the break, First applied themselves better and Grisedale's neat play saw him poke home the equaliser moments after the break. The third was a scrambled goal with Grisedale netting his hat-trick sending the crowd into stunned rapture!!! But it all fell apart when Headlam and Grisedale were replaced, First lost their shape and let in a soft equaliser. And more heartbreak was to come in the final minute when Locker dropped the ball and Danby scrambled the loose ball home for an undeserved late winner. Locker, Trott, Tose, Usher, Steele, C Headlam(Hunter), Owen, Howard, Grisedale(A Wardill), Wright, M Headlam. Subs not used: Thomas, Snaith |
