The Journey of Faramir
Important events involving Faramir
After Aragorn becomes king of Gondor there is no need for a ruling steward (which would have been Faramir due to the death of his father, Denethor). Aragorn names Faramir the Prince of Ithilien where he lives with his wife, Eowyn. Beregond, the faithful soldier who aids in saving Faramir from the mad actions of Denethor (book only) also resides in Ithilien.
~Osgiliath~
Faramir works bravely to defend the city of Osgiliath so it does not fall and leave Minas Tirith without its last defense. Faramir is wounded greatly after returning to Osgiliath in an attempt to reclaim the city for Gondor. After this injury his father Denethor, driven mad from the palantir, feels all is beyond hope and attempts to burn himself and Faramir alive. Faramir is rescued but Denethor is not. While Faramir is still ill, Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth takes charge of Minas Tirith until Aragorn reclaims the throne.
~Minas Tirith~
Home city of both Faramir and Boromir. Faramir is the son of the steward, Denethor, who rules Gondor in the absence of the king. After his injury at Osgiliath Faramir dwells in Minas Tirith's House of Healing where he is healed by Aragorn. Also healed by the king is Eowyn of Rohan. Both spend much time in the houses of healing. Faramir falls in love with Eowyn and they are married.
~Ithilien~
Here is the first time we are introduced to Faramir. Frodo and Sam meet the Captain of Gondor in Ithilien, a sort of province of Gondor. They stay here for a while with the other rangers at the Forbidden Pool.(They are only held against their will in the movie...not the book). Here is also where Frodo learns of Boromir's death as it becomes known that Boromir is the brother of Faramir. The group soon parts and Frodo and Sam contiune on their way to Mount Doom.
