| The SDF was started in June 2000 in order to provide a home for those martial arts groups, clubs and individuals who have an interest in the REAL self defence aspects of the martial arts. With the humble begining of 5 clubs and 100 members, at the end of its 4th year(June 2004) we had nearly 50 clubs and 2000 members. We are now the fastest growing and foremost self defence organisation in the UK. The founder and head is Dave Turton 8th Dan, officially the highest graded authentic self defence instructor in the country. He is the man the other experts seek out for their tuition. Top names like Geoff Thompson, Jamie O'Keefe, Kevin O'Hagan and many more, including National and International champions from such diverse arts as Karate, Ju-Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Freestyle, Kickboxing, MMA and many others. All have come to Dave for tuition. Dave also writes articles for several martial arts magazines, hosts a forum Q&A section on Geoff Thompsons website, he is a published author, and in 2003 was inducted in to the Combat Martial Arts Hall Of Fame for his outstanding contributions to realistic combat for over 40 years.
