2004 Chili Champion

For the last four years on Super Bowl Sunday the Senior youth have participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring. Usually the youth, under the direction of Melissa and some other adult supervisers, offer a Winter White chili and cornbread lunch after the church service for the congregation. Everyone enjoyed the good food and fellowship and we were able to raise money for two local soup kitchens,The Hickory Soup Kitchen and The Corner Table in Newton.

In 2003 the youth decided to add a new twist to our Souper Bowl Sunday. Stealing an idea from the High School we decided to have a Souper Bowl Sunday Chili Cook-Off. Members of the congregation were encouraged to dig up their family's old secret recipe for the best chili that anybody has ever tasted and enter it into the our Annual Souper Bowl Sunday Chili Cook-Off. A panel of judges selected from the congregation tasted the entries. A trophy was awarded to the best pot of chili. After the church service the congragtion was invited to stay and enjoy a chili lunch. In 2004 we had our 2nd Annual Souper Bowl Sunday Chili Cook-Off. 14 different pots of chili were entered and we raised $232.00 for two of our local soup kitchens.
2004 top finishers were:
3rd place tie - Pastor Sarah Kalish and Debbie Sain
2nd place - Ann Curtis
1st place - Jenna Ledford
Congratulations and Thank-you to all the participants as well as luncheon attendees for making this such a successful project!
