Devotion & Opening Prayer
Chairperson Alvin Rose opened the meeting with prayer.


New Business

Igniting Ministry Program - Developing a Welcoming Church:Denise Campbell presented a video of the second series of Igniting Ministries, "Developing a Welcoming Church". She explained that the video and the program shows how to meet and identify the needs of the church, others and visitors. Pastor Kalish then commented on this program and that there is a form on the internet on certified Welcoming Church Congregations.

After discussion it was decided to try and set up a program that would occur during Sunday School times for those that are interested in attending.

New Sunday School Class -There was discussion on developing a college class but no decision was made at this time.

New Circle Group -There was discussion on developing a new circle group for female youth but no decision was made at this time.

Trustees Report

Secretary Teresa Hoyle reported that Cliff Auton had some concerns about the following areas: The Sump Pump has to be replaced which was damaged by Ingold. Drainage pipe on the left side of the Educational Building needs to fixed for better drainage. Drainage from the right side of the porch roof at entrance of the Education Building needs to be fixed because wind is blowing water back onto the cement and when freezing creates a dangerous surface.

Outreach

Denise Campbell spoke more on the Igniting Ministries series. It was decided that David Early could work with Denise in implementing this program

Nurture

Revival - Dates for the Revival were set for Feb. 15-17 at 7:00pm. Sunday night will focus on youth, Monday night will focus on Welcoming and Tuesday night on Mission and Outreach

UMW Sunday - UMW Sunday will be on Feb. 2 with Debbie Poovey serving as the guest speaker.

UMW Report

Tracy Heffner reported on the following items:
UMW Sunday - Sunday, Feb. 2nd
Gas Logs - The UMW will purchase gas logs for the parsonage.
MIssion Gift - The UMW presented the Red Bird Mission with a monetary donation.
Flatware -The Suzana Wesley group purchased flatware for use in the church kitchen.
Lamplighters - The Lamplighters circle has disbanded and members will join other circle groups.
Community Prayer Breakfast - There will be a Community Prayer Breakfast Feb. 7 at Living Word Church. More people need to get involved and attend.


UMM Report

Jody Stouffer reported on the following items:
UMM District Breakfast - There will be a UMM District Breakfast held on March 7 at 7:00am at Bethlehem UMC in Claremont. Men attending the breakfast will meet in the church parking lot at 6:30am and take the van. There are currently 8 men signed up to atend.
Breakfast - The next Methodist Mens Breakfast will be held on Sunday, March 14th at 7:00am in the Fellowship Hall.
Charter -The Methodist Men renewed their charter for the 2004 year and members will receive their UMM membership cards at the next meeting.
Fundraisers -The men are currently making plans to hold a fish fry and golf tournament this spring as a fundraiser. Dwayne Wilson has been asked to contact Glen Oaks for possible dates for the golf tournament. Tim Abernathy is looking into dates for the fish fry.
Youth Fishing Day - Jody Stouffer has begun planning a special day between the UMM and church youth. A Fishing Rodeo is being planned for this summer. No dates have been set at this time. UMM members will be paired with a youth from the church and prizes will be awarded for various categories. Denise Campbell has offered the use of her pond for this event.
Church Basketball -The UMM donated $100.00 to the church basketball team to assist them in meeting their registration costs.
Emmaus Walk - UMM President Jody Stouffer attended the Feb. 19th CCEC Walk. He felt it was a very powerful and inspiring experience.
Regional Conference - UMM President Jody Stouffer is looking into the possibility of attending the UMM Regional Conference March 28-30 in Pocono Manor, Pennsylvania.

UMYF Report

Jody Stouffer reported on the following items:
Nursing Home Bingo - Bingo at the Lincoln Nursing Home had to be rescheduled to Sunday, Feb. 29 due to the snow.
Souper Bowl Lunch - The Souper Bowl Luncheon was a great success. We had 14 different chilis entered with Jenna Ledford's taking 1st place. $232.00 in donationswere collected for the Hickory Soup Kitchen and the Corner Table in Newton.
Retreats -The Winter Ski Retreat, Feb. 6-8 turned out wonderful. 7 youth and 4 adults attended. The excessive snow and ice didn't hamper our spirits! The skiers enjoyed a fun day on the slopes of the Appalachian Ski resort. Those that didn't ski enjoyed a quite day at the cabin playing cards and fixing a big italian spaghetti and meatball dinner for the others. Sunday morning the snow and ice kept us from attending church services but we had a very enriching bible study based off of the movie "Bruce Almighty". The next retreat will be the John's River Retreat scheduled for March 26-28. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will be the theme for this retreat. A retreat planing session is scheduled for Thursday, March 4 in the Fellowship Hall at 7:00pm.
2004 Mission Trip - Plans and reservations are continuing to be made for the 2004 New York City Mission Trip Scheduled for May 28-June 5. There are 7 adults and 8 youth attending.
ECCCM -The UMYF received a thank-you note from ECCCM for their $150.00 donation from the Haunted House earnings.
Salvation Army - The UMYF received a thank-you note from the Salvation Army thanking them for supporting a family this past Christmas.
Haunted House - Melissa reported that $6,300.00 was earned from the Haunted House Fundraiser this year. One more day of moving lumber will be needed to finish this project. The UMYF will need to find a new location next year if they are going to continue with the Haunted House because the current building will no longer be available.

Other Business

Aerobics Class - Tammy Lawing asked if she could hold aerobics classes in the church Fellowship Hall. Several church members currently atend her classes. It was agred that she could use the facility.
Lay Person of the Year - A person from the congragation was nominated for Lay Person of the Year. It was also decided that the Lay Person of the Year plaque in the hall needed to be updated.
District Finance -It was noted that there will be a District Finance Meeting on Feb. 15 to discuss appointments.
Lent Service -FUMC will be the host for the March 21st Lent Service and refreshments will need to be put together for this service. A schedule of Lent services will be placed in the bulletin
