Hey, Scott. Come on in. Megan swung the door fully open to let Scottie in, then shut it behind him. She watched his crystal blue eyes dart around the house, taking the scenery in. She smiled at him, and he returned it. She led him down the hall to the television room, picking up her pet iguana before sitting down. He watched her intently, a puzzled expression on his face as she played with him. She noticed him staring at her and blushed slightly. What?
I never would have pictured you with a lizard. She smiled and chuckled.
No one ever does. But Godzilla here is my best friend. He laughed at her making faces at the lizard, who just sat on her lap and took the attention. Well, besides Kelli anyway.
Youve never mentioned Kelli before.
She works with me at the hospital. She works more than I do. Shes only a few houses down from here. He nodded, never breaking the eye contact. She watched as Godzilla slowly crawled into Scotties lap, much to Scotties surprise. He tried to block him off, but Megan wouldnt let him. Just let him go. And relax. He can tell if youre nervous and itll make him nervous too. He wont bite. Scottie smiled at her, marveling at the warmth of her eyes. They just sat there in silence, staring into each others eyes. Megan cleared her throat, breaking the trance. She picked up Godzilla and put him back in his cage carefully.
So, uh, I should probably get back. I was just wondering if youd want to come over for dinner or something tonight. Megan couldnt prevent the smile from slipping across her lips.
Sure. Yeah, that sounds nice. Oh wait, Kelli was going to come over tonight. Damn.
Bring her along. Im sure Mark wouldnt mind. Scottie wiggled his eyebrows, invoking the laughter he wanted from Megan.
Thanks. Scottie smiled, then let himself out the front door. Megans smile remained for a while after Scottie had left. She couldnt stop beaming, and couldnt wait to tell Kelli.

***

We WHAT?
Were going over to Scotts for dinner.
Thats what I thought you said. Megan and Kelli giggled. What am I going to wear? Megan rolled her eyes.
Oh God, Kelli. Just go in what youre wearing now.
But I look like a scrub.
Whatever. We have to be over there in five minutes anyway. Lets go. Kelli reluctantly agreed, following Megan down the street.

After dinner, the six (Jagger had tagged along with his daddy) went into Scotties living room to watch a movie. Kelli left halfway through to get some sleep before working another double-shift the next day, and Scott and Jagger eventually headed upstairs to go to bed as well, leaving Mark and Scottie with Megan.
You think shed go out with me? Mark broke the silence.
Probably. Why dont you ask her? Mark smiled at Megan. Im sure she would. Mark smiled, then announced he was going to bed.
You still takin those painkillers before bed or are you just living with the pain? Megan smirked up at Mark, who rolled his eyes.
It doesnt hurt anymore, thank you very much. Megan and Scottie both laughed hysterically as he huffed out the room, then stuck his head back around the corner to smile, wink, and say goodnight. Megan shook her head as the laughter wound down, then found herself staring up into those gorgeous, crystal blue eyes. He leaned in, his eyes shifting from hers to her lips, and back up into her eyes again. Their lips met as their eyes closed, and Megan leaned in, intensifying the kiss. Her hands found their way up his shoulders and around his neck, her fingers catching in his blond hair, keeping his lips against hers. He slowly pulled away, a trace of a smile on his face.
I should go, she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Stay, Scottie begged. She slowly shook her head, placing a finger over his lips and smiling.
I cant. His smile fell. She planted a quick kiss on his lips and stood, leaving him in the semi-darkness. He sighed, then went after her. He threw open the front door, only to see her sitting on his porch, smiling up at him. I wondered how long it would take you, she stated with a smile.  He sat next to her, his eyes twinkling. I really cant stay though, she said slowly. I want to, but I cant tonight. He nodded slowly. They stood together, their shadows joining in one last embrace before she headed back to her house for the night.

***Three Weeks Later***

Okay, Mark, here we go. Megan gently removed the last piece of cast from Marks arm, then scrubbed it down. Youll have to do some exercises to build the muscle back up, but that shouldnt take long for you, she said, gently giving his large bicep a squeeze. He smiled at her.
Thanks, Meg. She smiled and nodded.
Not a problem, she said, slipping in a wink. Now get outta here. He laughed.
Are you and Kelli coming over tonight? Scottie and I have a bet going on whos gonna win at Playstation. Megan rolled her eyes.
You guys will never grow up, will you? Mark shook his head, a huge grin snaking across his face.
Hell no. Ill see you later. Megan smiled and watched him leave, finally heaving a sigh.
Whats your problem? Kelli stuck her head in the door and wiggled her eyebrows. I saw Mark leave. Sad to see him go, but more than happy to watch him walk away. She wiggled her fingers as if she was grabbing his behind, and Megan laughed.
Im just tired.
Scottie still giving you hell about staying over? Megan nodded.
Its not that I dont want to she trailed off.
Just be up front with him. Megan nodded. Kelli patted Megs knee before leaving.

Hey, Meg. Whats up?
Hey Scott. I was just going to take a walk and wondered if youd join me.
Absolutely, he replied, kissing her lips. She lingered, wishing this moment would never end. He withdrew, and smiled down at her, looking deep into her eyes. Whats wrong, Meg? Megan sighed.
You know how you always want me to stay over? He nodded, a nervous feeling growing in the pit of his stomach.
Look, Meg, if youre not sure about us, I can understand.
No, she insisted, stopping and taking his hands into her own. It isnt that at all. Ive just She sighed, a rosy blush seeping into her cheeks. Its nothing. I promise.
Megan, if somethings bothering you, I want to know so I can fix it.
Scott, nothing is bothering me, Megan insisted. Scott raised his eyebrow. I swear. She gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
Are you sure? Megan nodded. Because if anything is bothering you at all, I want to know about it so I can make it better, he said, gently kissing her lips.
