Before
we begin, perhaps an explanation is in order? For
anyone curious, a "Firkin" is a British term for a keg or barrel of beer which
holds about 9 gallons of the glorious, amber nectar of the gods.
And now about us . . . Oh, it's always about us, isn't
it? Well it should be, since we are North America's largest growing chain
of neighbourhood pubs - a welcoming place to meet friends for a pint, some fine
food and a good time. Brilliant! It's an idea that Firkin founders,
Stanley Adelson and Ian Fisher, will gladly tell you was theirs.
Today there are 34 Firkin pubs in Canada - the majority being in the Greater
Toronto Area - and we have four more on the way in Vancouver. However,
the really big Firkin news these days is happening in the land of the free -
soon to be known as the land of the Firkin. Our first two Firkin pubs
opened in Miami and New York, and another 125 Firkins are in development.
But the Firkin isnšt all about good looks and charming disposition - no, we
have a heart too. Our annual Firkin Golf Classic is just one of many ways
we give back to our communities. In just seven years this tournament has
raised more that $1,000,000 for Sunnybrook and Women's. This year, we
raised $225,000 for Sunnybrook and Markham-Stouffville Hospital, bringing the
total to over $1.2 million.
