Wind

I wish the wind would carry me away
So that I might smell all there is to see

The north wind would carry me to evergreens and soft wet snow
To long cold nights and bright brisk mornings
And to land, I have yet to know

The fruits that ride the south wind are true
They reek of spring's lust and of summer's heat
And I recall a patch on a hill that I once knew

West and east wind I know oh too well
They travel around the level that I grew
But they have been to places that I can not tell

The wind sees all but knows so few
It never resides in a place
To enjoy the view

The wind is like one great wyrm
Who squirms and wiggles
To hold its grip on this earth firm

The wind destroys rock and stirs sea
It plays with men's hair
And tickles the skin joyfully

If I could ride the wind
Where might I go
Where there is no sin
And I am never alone
