Match Report: Ranger Ramjets v Lemmings

Passing and kicking the footy amongst the boys prior to the match, trying to catch each other off guard, put the Ramjets in a ninja agility state of physical performance and mentality so great the Jungle Cat himself would have been proud had he been there to witness it. Gary, with a now outstanding ratio of 1 0 wins to losses of coin tosses as captain, elected to put our agility to the test and elected to bowl.
Taking the field with 9 (some of the guys missed the memo of an 11:30 arrival time), Captain Gary set a field as aggressive as Clintoffs early sledges. With a packed off side and a lonely yet dedicated Cody on the leg side, Gary took the shiny red and ripped off the first ball of the Ramjets season. Edges were the dish of the day for lemmings, with chances going begging over slips; some almost taken with Action Man Mikes tiger-like reflexes.
It wasnt until Mr Sweets arrival 6 overs into the game, having felt the burning need to fill up on KFC prior to the match despite running late already, that the Ramjets drew first blood from Lemmings. Clean bowled by Abduls swinging express, or ordinary ball as Jamie offered as the team assembled to celebrate our first wicket of the season.
The game continued, runs were scored, overs were bowled, chances went by, but wickets were taken. Coming into the drinks break, we had held Lemmings to below 100 after an inspiring first session in the field.
After drinks, the flood gates opened, and after restricting the sudden but short lived outburst of runs, compliments of the Parker brothers and the opening batsmens half century, the Ramjet bowlers delivered the goods, taking vital wickets. Cody stepped to the plate and put the pressure on the run rate, and the Midas boys took to the ball with a vengeance grabbing a handful of wickets between them.
In the 35th over, with some inspiring bowling from Abdul which lured the batter from his crease, the Ramjets bowled all 10 of Lemmings batters for 176 (or 186 I cant remember).
With a short break, and a quick visit from our good friend Jim, Young Aaron Midas and Dallan Pitman strode to the pitch to face the awaiting Joe Parker. After a decent start, and one seriously mean looking bruise on Dallans rib cage, Lemmings gave the ramjets their first victim of the season: Dallan Caught and Bowled. Strutting to the crease, Josh Midas showed no signs concern, putting the first ball to the boundary for 4 and the innings continued until one ball after a lucky drop, Josh was dismissed.
Meanwhile, Aaron had seen off the opening pair and the new ball and was collecting runs at a rapid rate, spreading the Lemmings field. Gary, putting in a controlled effort, fell at the hands of Lemmings, bringing Jaime out to bat with his shiny new gear. Aaron passed his 50 with a boundary (from memory) and raised his bat for the Ramjets first half century. Between Aaron and Jaimes onslaught of runs, the game grew closer to an end, with the two teams end of over statistics matching nearly run for run, wicket for wicket.
In the 34th over, with no batters to spare, Amilla cracked two great hook shots towards fine leg for the winning runs, bringing a nail biting season starter to a successful close for the Ranger Ramjets.
After the match, Gary awarded the match ball to Aaron for his excellent effort with the bat and inspiring bowling, and the yellow cap to be worn by Mr Sweet for his quick-fire 40 and guiding the Ramjets through the final overs of the match.
Congratulations to Lemmings for a great spirited, competitive first match of the season.
