The U2 Files:
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

They were lucky they were in the basement. If they weren't, some
security
officers, if not the AD himself, would be down there now.
        "You can't Mulder."
        "Why not?"
        "Because it's probably a trap."
        "How do you know?"
        "It's always a trap or a lie."
"Maybe it's not this time. How can we be sure?"
        "Look at our track record."
"But this might be it. I have to check it out."
"No Mulder we have other cases to worry about."
"I can't expect you to understand. It isn't your sister that's
missing."
"I do understand. But WE can't run every time a hint of her appears."
"No one asked you to come." He said as he started to get his stuff
ready to leave
for the day.
"If you ditch me Fox, the wedding is off. I won't be ditched by you at
the alter if
your sister is found."
He didn't look at her and left. 'Doesn't she understand that my sister
is my work
and my work is my life?'
        'But isn't Dana your life?'
        'Yeah, but-'
        'But what?'
'Shut up.' He knew the little voice was right but that didn't mean he
had to agree
with it. No body understood what his sister meant to him.

When her partner and fianc‚ didn't come to work the next day she knew
he left.
Dana went about her work the best she could. She wasn't going to cry
when she was
called to the AD's office.
She knew that he wanted to ask her about her partner. There was no way
around
it. She was going to tell the truth.
When asked she just answered, "He went to look for his sister. He left
either last
night or this morning. If you need me for another assignment go right a
head." Dana knew
her emotions were showing through.
Lucky for her so did the Skinner. He was the only one who know about
the
proposal. The way Skinner found out was kind of amusing to the two
agents. It had
never occurred to the Fox that people from the office might also be at
the concert. Let
alone the AD.
Both were very curious when the AD called them in the next morning.

"Agent Mulder, Agent Scully please have a seat." When both complied he
continued. "I have noticed, as have others, that you both have been
spending a lot of time
here at work. While I must watch the agents during work, I must also be
wary of how
they spend their off time. So basically this is to ask if you had had
any downtime
recently."
"Yes. Actually we were both at the U2 concert Friday night."
"Funny I was there too. Great concert. Wait, was it you two that-"
"Yes sir. Bono and I have a friend in common." Mulder said quickly.
Both he
and Scully were embarrassed, they hadn't discussed work and marriage.
"When did you too plan telling us. You know how the bureau looks upon
couples
working together. All right. I can't do anything about that at the
moment. I'll keep you
updated on what is now planed for you. But just please try and behave."
"Yes sir. Sorry if we put you in a hard situation." Fox said and they
left.

"No Agent Scully. I was just going to inform you on the what changes
we came
up for you and Mulder."
"Well you won't have to worry about that sir. The wedding has been
canceled."
Skinner felt bad. There two agents were very close to him almost like
his children.
He was able to tell that Scully was upset. He took a step to find out
more. "What
happened?"
"He cam across a file and ditched me. I told him that if he left than
the marriage
off."
"Okay Agent Scully, Why don't you go back to work and we'll see you
tomorrow."

Dana Scully had four days before Mulder came home. Each day added more
fuel
to the fire.
Fox was depressed when he got home. Dana had been right. It was a
lie.
Samantha wasn't there.
        "Dana I'm S-"
"I don't care I told you if you left not to come back Mulder."
        "But Dan-"
"No Go back to YOUR home. I don't want to speak to you. I'll see you
on
Monday."

Fox left in even a worse mood. Now, not only did he not have his
sister but he
didn't have his wife.
Fox spent the weekend trying to speak to Dana. He called her, e-mailed
her, and
even went to her apartment. But she wouldn't speak to him. He left
messages saying how
much he loved her and how sorry he was.

Dana for her part missed him. She wouldn't deny the fact that she
loved him. But
if she accepted him back then he'd do it again. She spent the weekend
hiding in her
apartment.

What was going to happen on Monday occupied both of the agents all
weekend
long.

Mulder was at work first. "Good morning Dana."
        "Hello Agent Mulder."
        "Dana will you-"
"We are at work Agent Mulder. While you were AWAY we got another
case. I
looked it over and made some notes. It's on your desk."
"I read it over Dana. Very good job. I tend to agree with you on it."
"Good well there are other files that I need to look over." With that
Scully was up
and at the files cabinet.
Fox didn't get a chance to say anything. They worked in silence till
lunch. Fox
was the one to break it. "Dana would you go to lunch with me?"
When she didn't answer, "Please, Dana. We need to talk. I love you
and I don't
want this to split us up."
        "Fine." She answered.
They went for their normal walk to the reflecting pool and sat. "So
talk Mulder.
Why did you ditch me?"
"I didn't ditch you. I told you I was going to go. I wanted you to
come with me,
you choose not to come."
        "So did you find her?"
        "No Dana, I told you."
        "See I was right."
"I'm trying to explain to you that I knew you were right. But I still
had to look-"
"Why Fox? I don't understand. Don't I complete your life?"
"Dana, You do. But," He shook his head. "If we do get married we
really must
invite them." He mumbled.
        "What?"

I have climbed the highest mountains
I have run through the fields
        Only to be with you

I have run I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
        Only to be with you
        But I still haven't found
        What I'm looking for
        But I still haven't found
        What I'm looking for

        I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
        It burned like fire.
        This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angles
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
        But I still haven't found
        What I'm looking for
        But I still haven't found
        What I'm looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
        But yes I'm still running
        You broke the bonds
        You loosened the chains
        You carried the cross
        And my shame
        And my shame
        You know I believe it
        But I still haven't found
        What I'm looking for
        But I still haven't found
        What I'm looking for

"I don't expect you to understand but I thought that you would except
my
obsession with Samantha. If you can't maybe we shouldn't get married."
"No Fox. I should have known. I don't want you to stop looking for
your sister.
If you did you wouldn't be Fox Mulder. I'm sorry, but please don't ever
leave me again."
        "I'll try. I really will."
"Why don't we go back to the office. Skinner said he had a plan for us
to continue
working together."

The End!!
