PERFECT –

by Firesword

Harry looked at the figure walking down the quaint footpath of his house with longing, and he wondered, with a touch of hopelessness, at how long it would take for him to convince Draco of his own worth. The figure in the distance turned and waved at him; Harry waved back and forced a small smile on his lips. Draco Malfoy Apparated off and Harry closed the door behind him.

He went to sit on his chair and sighed pensively. Why, Draco? Why do you deny happiness?

If he only knew what was going on in Draco’s mind, but he was not going to do anything that would breach the silver-haired wizard’s sense of privacy. For more than six years, Harry had been developing some very deep feelings for the Slytherin, and it had been the same for Draco. However, for some reason, something was holding Draco back from committing himself to become a lover. Harry’s lover.

Although they loved each other, things never went past the occasional kisses and embraces, and Harry liked it like that. He wanted Draco to be truly his before they moved on to love making. He wanted Draco to be more confident about the pairing before stepping right along.

His friends could not understand why he was willing to wait for Draco – his friends could not understand why he did not take Ginny back, who was available and waiting for him. He had tried to tell them that he was in love, very much in love with Draco, but most of them had seemed to think that a man could not love another man like that. Hermione had told him that a love like that would not be balanced.

He pulled his knees up and hugged them as he rested his forehead on them. His heart ached. He ached for Draco. He clenched his fingers tightly. He could not push Draco too hard, however, for that would only scare the wizard away.

I just wish you wouldn’t look as though I had said a joke every time I say ‘I love you’ to you. Merlin, Draco ... I love you so much.

He swallowed around the lump in his throat and stood up slowly. He glanced at the clock and sighed. He should be getting to bed – he had to open his wand shop early tomorrow. Harry climbed the staircase to get to his room and instead of slipping into bed he sat down on the window-seat.

I think about you all night.

Green eyes stared out at the swing secured to the strong branches of a tree and Harry easily imagined Draco sitting down on it and let himself be swayed by the gentle wind.

When you’re gone I dream of you.

It did not matter if he was asleep or awake. Whenever important things like work did not occupy his mind, he would often daydream about seeing Draco around the house, being around him.

Write your name upon my window.

Just once, on his twentieth birthday, he had written Draco’s name on his bedroom window with his tears. He had been looking forward to see Draco’s face, but the Slytherin had not appeared on the promised time.

You’re perfect.

Harry smiled at the memory. Draco had turned up sometime past eight in the evening, and he was wearing a set of silver-white robes – a birthday gift that Harry had given him on his birthday in June. The silver-eyed wizard had apologized profusely for being late, he had chided Harry for crying, and then he had presented Harry a gift.

The green-eyed wizard touched the pendant against his chest and smiled gently. Draco had designed the pendant; a dragon curled around a hilt of a sword. Harry wished that his gifts to the Slytherin were as unique and magnificent, but sometimes he always fell short on imagination. He still did not know what to give Draco for Valentine’s Day, and that event was just two days away.

The day came, and Harry tried to focus on his work, but his efforts were in vain. It was lucky that there were not a lot of customers visiting his wand shop, except for a group of Hufflepuff students who had somehow managed to break their wands during a Charms lesson. They, and Professor Sprout, managed to fill his mind with distractions for a while. Only for a while, however.

Harry closed his shop at around six, and tipped his head to the owner of the shop beside his. He wondered if he should shop around to look for a gift, but decided against it. I know Draco. He is probably waiting for me in the gazebo already. He Apparated off the streets of Diagon Alley and landed on a soft turf of grass. His eyes immediately fell upon the figure leaning against the wooden frame of the gazebo.

“How was work today?” Draco greeted him with a smile.

“All right, I suppose. Some Hufflepuffs dropped in, along with Professor Sprout,” Harry said and hugged Draco warmly. He took Draco’s hand and pulled the blonde-haired man to the bench.

“Really?”

“I wonder how eight people can break wands in Charms accident,” Harry said ruefully.

“Seriously?” Draco sat beside him and familiarly rested his fair head against Harry’s shoulder. Again, that caused Harry to feel longing again.

“Yeah. And you? How were your students behaving?”

“Badly, the devils.” Draco let out a silvery laugh.

“So, does that mean they were well-behaved?” Harry said intelligently. Again, Draco laughed and he kissed Harry’s cheek lovingly.

“Yes, they were. For once, the devils behaved. They had actually managed to follow instructions on the boards, after I had repeated to them several times with an amplified voice,” Draco said cheekily.

“And how did your mentor take it?”

“Still deaf apparently.”

Harry chuckled. “You enjoy annoying the greasy bastard, don’t you?”

“Well, he’s my godfather ... my guardian. I think a ward should always be annoying,” Draco said impishly.

“You shouldn’t do that anymore, you know. You don’t want your future godson to do that to you, don’t you?”

“Hmmmm.”

Draco playfully messed his hair and that always led to a very passionate kiss between the two of them.

“Anyway, who even wants me to be their godfather?” Draco asked gaily when they parted.

“Who knows?” Harry responded philosophically as he gently rubbed Draco’s red lips.

Their surroundings were dimming gradually. Harry and Draco looked briefly at each and nodded. They rose to their feet, and hand in hand, they walked out of the gazebo to tread on one of the many paths found in the huge park. The particular path they had taken would lead them to another gazebo, except that this one would be on water.

I see the moon is out tonight.

It was fully dark when they finally reached the bridge leading to hideout. Harry looked up at the sky and squinted at the bright moon shining in the heavens.

See your silhouette so bright.

The sable-haired wizard cast a sidelong glance at his companion, and the radiance that surrounded Draco mesmerized him to breathlessness.

It only lights your beauty.

“You’re beautiful, do you know that?” Harry whispered. He reached out to caress a sharp cheek tenderly as his eyes drank in the glow of pleasure from Draco’s face.

“Harry, stop that,” Draco muttered.

Impishly, Harry stood on his toes and whispered seductively in Draco’s ear. “You’re beautiful, Draco. I love it when you’re out under the moonlight. You ... shine.” He kissed a slightly pink cheek.

You’re perfect.

Harry’s heart pounded with love when he stared deeply into bright, silver eyes. You’re so lovely, Draco. They crossed the bridge together and when Draco set his foot onto the platform, the gazebo lit up instantly.

“Harry, I need to talk to you about something.” Draco moved away from him and clasped his hands over the railing while looking out into the lake. The raven-haired wizard nodded absently and looked intently at the Slytherin’s profile. “It’s about us.”

“All right,” he said cautiously. Please, Draco. Don’t leave me. Not again.

“I know I’ve caused you pain ... by making you feel as though what we have between us is an on-off-on kind of thing,” Draco said softly.

“If you’re not ready to commit yourself into this, it’s okay, Draco. I’ll wait.”

“Harry, why do you insist on waiting for me?”

He met Draco’s eyes bravely. “Because I love you, Draco,” he said simply. “I will wait, for as long as it takes.”

Draco looked away then, and Harry placed his hand on top of the Slytherin’s and caressed it gently.

“I don’t know why, Harry,” Draco said in a hushed voice. “Anytime I think about being your boyfriend, I get the feeling you’ll get taken away from me. It’s just like that time ... when I thought you were never coming back after the battle with V–Voldemort.” Draco’s eyes were glittering with unshed tears. “I don’t want ... I can’t lose you, Harry. I don’t want you to leave me.”

“I’m not going to leave you, Draco,” Harry said quietly.

“Harry, you don’t understand. I don’t want to lose you like that.” Draco’s voice was very strained, so much that he was croaking. “I don’t care if you leave me for some other guy – or girl – at least you’re still around ... but I can’t – I don’t want you to die.”

Suddenly, Draco threw himself onto Harry and cried softly into his shoulder. A little stunned, the Gryffindor wrapped his arms protectively around Draco and held the slender man tight.

“I love you, Harry. I love you so much ... I can’t bear the thought of losing you forever. I can’t stand the thought of you being so far away that I can’t reach you, can’t touch you, can’t hear you.”

For several seconds, Harry felt Draco’s pain, the pain of losing someone you love. His eyes watered and glimmered, and quickly, he closed them. Tears trickled down his face and they dropped, slowly, on Draco’s back.

Come to me with an open hand.

“Draco, can I be your lover?” he murmured his request against silver-blonde hair. “Please?”

“I want to be yours too,” Draco replied in a muffled voice. “I have wanted to for a long time, but I was afraid.”

I’m never gonna leave.

“I will never leave you, Draco.” Harry’s heart cried with joy. I’ll never leave you alone.

I’m gonna make you understand.

“The more dangerous part of my destiny is over. Voldemort is dead, and the Death Eaters are no more. Your godfather won’t be walking around like a free man if those two factors still exist. I will try to be careful and not let Death take me from you prematurely. Okay?”

“But Death is a part of nature, Harry. If she wants you to–”

“Shhhhh. I will never leave you, Draco.”

Look at me with a tear-stained smile.

“Hey, look at me.” Harry pulled away and lifted Draco’s chin. “I’m your lover now. Do not think about the possibility for now. We should be enjoying our life together. Our life.”

Forever in my dreams, you’re perfect.

“Okay?”

“Okay.” Draco smiled tremulously at him and suddenly chuckled. “We’re lovers. I feel happier than usual.”

“That’s because everything is properly tied up,” Harry said drily and Draco tousled his already untamable hair affectionately.

I love you, Draco. It does not matter if you’re a dream or a reality; you’re my lover now. Merlin ... you’re so beautiful.

I will never say goodbye.

I will never leave you. Please, whoever has a say in deciding my fate, do not take me away from him. Do not take him away from me. I deserve a bit of happiness now. I deserve to love Draco.

I will never make you cry.

“I hope this is the last time I make you cry, Draco,” he said softly as he wiped the remaining wetness from the corners of his lover’s eyes.

Draco smiled lovingly at him. “Just as long as I’m in your arms, Harry. Just as long as I’m with you, and you with me.”

As long as you are in my arms.

They embraced again, and Harry kissed his lover’s hair tenderly.

“I’ll never be alone again.”

You will never need to fear.

No, never fear that, Draco. “You won’t be. I’m here with you. Always.” Always here for you. I will always be here for you.

Just as long as I am here.

As long as you are in my arms.

“For as long as I’m able to, Draco, you will never be alone again.” Maybe ... Maybe I should give it to him after all. “I nearly forgot ... Happy Valentine’s Day.” And he handed Draco a small, palm-sized box.

Silver eyes looked at him in puzzlement and Draco slowly opened the box. An emerald jewel set on a ring gleamed slightly under the moonlight. “Harry...” Draco whispered breathlessly and stared at it.

“It’ll look good on you. Green looks good on you,” Harry mumbled and shifted on his feet nervously.

“Harry?”

“Yes?”

“I hope this has more purpose than to simply look good on me,” Draco whispered.

His lips quirked up into a soft smile involuntarily. Taking Draco’s hands in his – box and all – he knelt down before Draco. “Yes, it has more purpose than just that, but I was not sure whether you’re ready. Draco Aodhfin Malfoy, will you give me your consent so that I may be your lover, your husband and your mate?”

“That’s a lot of things, Harry,” Draco said teasingly. “Can’t you settle on one?”

“One?” Harry smiled impishly. “I want to be everything to you.” Draco blushed prettily in the moonlight, and just then, the wind blew gently around them. Harry’s heart throbbed as he gazed upon the beauty before him, but the joy in the pair of silver eyes was what that had brought him to tears.

“Yes. I give you my consent,” Draco answered him in a shaky voice. “Oh, gods, Harry!” Again, Draco threw himself at him and hugged him tightly. “Yes!”

Harry felt so drunk as they went off to have dinner in a restaurant. Draco looked just as blissful and continued to look so when they returned to Harry’s house, and into Harry’s bedroom.

Come lay down here beside me.

Without asking, Draco had slipped into bed with him and had snuggled close to his side. Harry prayed silently that they would continue to have nights like this. Nights that were filled with happiness and love.

And lay a kiss upon my face.

Purring softly, Draco propped himself up and started to plant soft kisses all over his face. “You have no idea of how happy you have made me, Harry.”

Harry grinned a little foolishly.

And say you’re mine forever.

“I will be yours for eternity, Harry, and beyond that. I swear.”

Silver-haired Draco rolled on top of him and stared penetratingly into his eyes. Harry rubbed his back tenderly and closed his eyes when Draco kissed his brow.

“I love you, Draco.”

“I love you too, Harry.”

You’re perfect.
