This course is designed as an introduction to the concepts and application of stagecraft to the modern theatre. The student will be introduced to the principles of the theatrical performance space. The student will gain an understanding of basic scenic design as well as in-depth knowledge and application of set construction and painting. The student will also investigate the elements of properties, set dressing, and special effects. The student will maintain and complete a portfolio that includes classroom notes and handouts, performance critiques, and responses to assigned readings.
The student is required to read and respond in writing to up to four plays as assigned by the instructor. The student is required to attend and respond in writing to two productions of plays and/or musicals in addition to participating in or attending the Firestone HS musical. The student will be actively involved in preparation for Firestone�s annual musical, the Spring Dance/Theatre Recital as well as any other relevant school-related events. |
