| This course is designed as an introduction to the craft of playwriting for the beginning student. The student will study important and representative plays from the American canon to understand their themes and structures as pieces of literature. The student will study the components of dramatic literature and apply critical thinking skills to assess specific pieces of literature. The student will develop a system of creating character, theme, and situation that can lead to quality writing. The student will work primarily in the medium of one-act plays developing their own ideas into a script of presentable quality. |
