1-What is the best part about touring?
I love visiting other countries, especially those who's cultures are so diffrent from ours. It's really cool that we get to globe trot, play music we like and get paid for it! It's also great doing loads of gigs and seeing people get into the music. Meeting people after the show is nice and making music with a group of guys I get along with makes it all less stressful. We normally have a great time.
3-What is your favourite city ?
I'm discovering cool new cities all the time. We recently went to Seattle for the first time and it was really cool. I'd like to return there for sure. New York and L.A. were a blast too. It's hard to tie my favourite city down to one place as it constantly changes as we discover new ones.
4-Recount a tour story
A few years ago on my first big tour (with the Prodigy-ed), I used to get really drunk before during and after the gigs. Then I would pass out blind drunk in the dressing room. The band i was touring with were a bunch of likely lads and they would empty the entire food rider all over me and take pictures. I would wake up with crisps in my socks and sausage rolls down my underpants! This happened every night for 5 gigs until I got really drunk and then they wheeled me out with the equiptment! I drink far less these days (thankfully). On the same tour I recall having an intimate sexual encounter backstage during a gig. I was only playing guitar of a few songs and so I had time to goof off in-between tunes. Well this day I (strangely) lost track of time and suddenly realised that the intro to one of the songs I was supposed to be playing on had already started. I managed to run up to the stage, trouser half up, grab my guitar with seconds to spare, to the applause of the stage crew and some enquiring glances from the rest of the band!
5-What are some of the other bands/jobs that you've done?
Other jobs I've had include of a lot of shit shop work as a teenager. Most of which I got sacked from after clashes with 'authority figures'. As for other bands: I've been in a few awful cover bands as a youngster. I've also been in a few serious bands at Uni. I did a stint with the Prodigy. I played with them live for a year and a half, did various sessions for MTV and did a lot of session work in the studio for Liam. I have recently played on Maxim from the Prodigy's solo hip hop LP which will be out early next year.
6-What would you be doing if you weren't on tour?
I really have no idea. Guitar playing is what I'm best at and it's all I can see myself doing. It's cool to be doing it and doing it well. Every guitarist wants or thinks they're going to make it but few ever do. I often think about how lucky I am, but hey, I've always got my degree.
7 - Favourite book?
'Trainspotting' by Irvine Welch is my favourite book. It's a mad jaunt through heroin and clubbing through the eyes of Scottish addicts.
8 - Favourite record?
'Never mind the bollocks' by the Sex Pistols. Do I need to tell you why? Because it's the greatest punk rock LP ever made!
9 - Favourite film?
'Goodfellas' by Martin Scorcese is my favourite film. It's just got a lot of pace and I don't think it glorifies the mob.
10 - Give us your top 5 tour LPs:
1 - Massive Attack 'Mezzanine'
2 - The Jam 'Greatest Hits'
3 - Quicksand 'Slip'
4 - Snoop Doggy Dog 'Doggy Style'
5 - Various drum'n'bass 'Torque compilation'
11-Favourite Pitchshifter tune?
My favourite Pitchshifter tune from the new LP is 'W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G.' firstly because it's a great tune and secondly because I get to show off when we play it!
