Fire Service Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are between 14 and 21 years of age.

POST INFORMATION:

Fire Service Explorer posts help youth gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of fire service, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of young adults.

Our post, Fire Explorer Post 949, was started in the summer of 2002 at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch in Metamora, MI. The majority of the members of our group serve as part of the camp's staff during the summer months. Thoughout the year, our group visits various fire departments from all around the Detroit Metropolitian area. These generous departments have taught us about everything from hoses, to backboarding, to aerial equipment and all sorts of things in between. Every month we plan on having a new totally hands-on topic for our members to learn about and practice.

This year we have been training hard! With the support and generosity of our sponsors, we will be able to serve in a role as the fire department at D-A this summer. Our post will be able to respond and assist at camp emergencies, as well as a support staff for the

Metamora Fire Department. Fire Explorer Post 949 will also be teaching about fire safety practices and demonstrationg other fire related activities to the thousands of campers we will encounter this summer.
