Facinating Fasteners

There are many joys to owning a 29 year old vehicle. Just one of these is dealing with rust and corrosion freezing half of the fasteners and the other half just falling out.

Here lies a collection of bolts that used to hold the interior floor panels and seat box to the frame. They had to be removed as part of the transmission servicing I did. I can not begin to describe the language that this effort inspired me to use.

Needles to say, I threw away all of the old fasteners and opted for a collection of new ones from the local hardware store. Hopefully, I will not face a challenge of this magnitude for at least another 30 years.

This next bolt is one that I pulled out of the transmission brake (parking brake). This bolt-nut combination obviously fell out many miles ago and had tumbled around inside the brake drum until reaching this nicely polished and smooth condition. I think I was dead lucky that it continued to tumble and did not bind up on anything. I can only imagine the damage that would have occured if that had happened.
