What to do if you have an Emergency
1st;  You've got to recognize the emergency.  Make sure that the person is in need of an ambulance.

2nd: Stay Calm, you're actions effect everyone else.

3rd: CALL 9-1-1, the faster you get EMS en route the better the chance of survival for someone who is in need of medical attention immediately.  You need to STAY CALM and tell the dispatcher what is wrong so they will know what is going on and what they need to send.

4th:  Do what you can do to help the person in need.  See below for things you can do in emergencies.
Choking...
Call 9-1-1. Lean the Victim forward and deliver 4 individual sharp blows to the back between the shoulderblades.  If the Victim is still choking position yourself behind the him/her.  Wrap your arms around the person's waist.  Place one fist (thumb towards his/her stomach) just above the navel and below the ribs.  Bring your other hand around the first one.  Pull inward and slightly upward 6-12 times, each thrust being a seprate attempt to dislodge the object.
Repeat this process until the object is dislodged or until EMS gets on scene.

Excessive bleeding...
Major Bleeding:  Call 9-1-1. Elevate the area that is injured higher than the person's heart.  Firmly apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean dressing.  When the dressing becomes saturated with blood do not change the dressing, simply apply another dressing on the top of the last.  The saturated dressing will aid in clotting of the blood.
Minor Bleeding:  Wash the wound with soap and water and apply a sterile dressing.
Cardiac Problems... (Heart)
An Adult in Cardiac Arrest (Heart Stopped):  Immediately call 9-1-1.  Move the person to a firm serface, preferably the floor. Attempt to give the person two breaths.  If the breaths.  If the breath doesn't go in, slightly tilt the head back and try again. Now go to the side of the person and follow the very bottom rib to the middle most part of their chest. Where the ribs come together.  Place the palm of your hand approximatly two fingers towards the head of the vitim.  Bring your other hand on top of your hand on the victims chest and interlock your fingers.  Compress the chest 15 times with the palm of your hand, each compression should go down approximately 1 1/2- 2 inches.  Repeat this process until EMS gets on scene.
Chest Pains:  Call 9-1-1. Keep the victim calm, encourage the victim to take deep breaths.  Have the victim sit in a possition that is comfortable.
