MEDAL OF VALOR
THE STORY
On January 18th, 2001 a Canadian Pacific Railroad train  containing near 20 car's of anhydrous amonia derailed about  5 miles  west of Minot. For the next 2 weeks, rescue crews and Emergency Service Workers at the local volunteer level, all the way to the Federal level assisted in the Critical Incident.  The cause of the derailment is still un-known, but shall be revealed this spring by the NTSB.

Amoung the responding agencies to the incident, was the Burlington Fire Department and the Burlington First Responders Unit. On September 11th, 2001, the Mayor of Burlington North Dakota, Presented the Emergency Medical Services Workers whom saved lives with the medal of Valor. I was amoung the reciepiants.

Each rescuer has his or her own story of what they did and how things happened, and the citizens of Minot, Burlington, Ruthville, Minot AFB,  and  of Ward County are very thankful for the thoughtless life saving actions that helped in this great catastrophie.
