| My mom and I decided to go shopping. I had to buy a birthday gift for a party my kids were going to. Tim was sleeping off a night of working third shift so I was ready to get out of the house. We went to Kmart and I found a gift and wanted to pick up some things for the hospital bag. I needed to get some wrapping paper and as we headed off in that direction and I felt this really good contraction. Mom asked if when we were done here if I wanted to go to Walmart. I told her about the contraction and thought maybe walking around the other store would bring on some good things. I had already lost my mucus plug and had "show" 4 days previous. We no more than got to the wrapping paper isle and I felt this strange wetness all of a sudden. My mom took one look at me and immediately asked me if my water had broken. I told her I didnt' know for sure, that I may have peed myself. I needed to use the restroom to look. She said ok, and she would cash everything out. Once I got to the restroom it was obvious my water had broken. When I got to the front of the store everyone was looking at me strangely. Aidan who was just 5 at the time is yelling and telling all customers that his mothers water had broken. About 20 people must have told me good luck!!!! I decided to drive home instead of the hospital so I could get Tim and my bags. When we got there I called Dr Joyces answering service to let them know I was on my way to the hospital. I tried waking up Tim. I told him my water broke while we were shopping and he needed to get up so we could go to the hospital. He wouldn't believe me, and didn't think the joke was very funny. I still had another 4 weeks to go before the baby was due. Finally after Dr Joyce returned my call, he believed that it was time. Since my mom was there she took Aidan and Taryn home with her. Tim and I drove to the hospital and went up to the Maternity Ward. They put me in a room and did the paper test and yes my water had broken. I was already 2 cm and 50% effaced. But I wasn't having any contractions. I tried walking the halls for a few hours but nothing. Finally Dr Joyce said she was going to use Cytotech to help my contractions since my cervix was already favorable. It didn't take long and I was having strong contractions. I did more walking up and down the halls to try and deal with the pain. It was unbearable and I finally walked to the desk to ask about a spinal. My cervix had other ideas, I was only 3 cm. So I opted for Staydol. The staydol did nothing but make me a looney in pain. It wasn't long however and I could have my spinal. It was supposed to last for 2 1/2 hours, but I woke up an hour later in horrible pain again. I had to wait though because the anestia guy was in the OR. When he was done he came back up and gave me another. This time when I woke up though I only felt a massive pressure in my bottom. The nurse checked me and I was complete! Dr Joyce came in and the nurses set the room and warmer up. Tim held my hand and counted out for me. I really ignored him though thinking I just want this baby OUT! I skipped on a breath and went straight for another count and Tim actually stopped me to make me breathe!!!! I felt a horrible horrible burning sensation and my butt came 6 inches off the bed. I was told to stop pushing, that baby was right there! Next thing I know I felt instant relief and this warm tiny little baby was placed on my chest. Tyra Kendal came into the world September 30, 2000 at 11:43 pm. She weighed 5lbs 8oz and 18 inches long. She was just so beautiful and so little we just held her and marveled at her. She had no problems for being 4 weeks early, and our pediatrician said that she was more likely 38 weeks because of the way her ears and her feet wrinkles were formed. We were all so proud of our new baby girl! |
