Waiting

A dream within a dream within reality
Is the only thing that my life really has to be;
A wish upon a star
That I know will not come true
So I will stand here waiting
And I will say a prayer
And press my face against the window
But not venture out there.

Printed poems and painted scenes provide a motive for my tears
But never smells or sounds or touch and never fears.
At night I close my eyes
And pretend that I can feel
And I will stand here waiting
And I will say a prayer
And write the headline in the newspaper
But do I care?

New frustrations every day
Put priorities away
And I will stand here waiting
And I will say a prayer
And make a speech and make a vow
And take a bow but not a dare
And I will stand here waiting
And I will stand here waiting
And I will stand here waiting
