Last Night of Summer

Afternoon rain, and you came
I showed you my new bedroom
We played with the computer
But it was just for a few hours, I knew;
      you had work to do at home

Evening came, and brought friends
We all wrote invitations, and ate donuts
And laughed and talked the night away
Though I knew you'd soon be gone

Midnight, and everyone left
But you stayed.
You held me and we whispered for hours
Til we fell asleep

Dawn came, and finally took you away
Brushing sleep from your eyes, you kissed me goodbye
And the summer followed you out my door,
But I think that summer will never be over
      in my soul
As long as you are there.
