One time a glacier passed through here

I lean against a fence and hear
A story with my eyes:
In just this field corralled in here
All time, in our disguise.

One time a glacier passed through here
And Earth was dressed in snow.
These woods once grew a jungle here
A billion years ago.

And now an eagle soars through here
With grace defying sense,
But I never see the eagle here;
I only see the fence.
