"We'll do without armor," you tell the blademaker. You pay for the sword and are about to leave the shop, when Deke catches your shoulder.
"Renn, I don't want to let Merlyn know," he says under his breath, a bit sheepishly, "but I'm kind of scared. There are some pretty weird monsters out there, man. I think we should buy some armor for the road."
You look up into the tall, muscular athlete's face. If Deke is scared of this place, you think, then maybe I should be, too. We dealt with everything in the woods okay, but there might be worse creatures out there than we've seen already.
You decide to ask Merlyn if she knows what other monsters begin to show up on the roads when a god becomes a demon. You walk up to her, but before you can ask she tells you, "Renn, I think we ought to get some armor after all. I know Deke thinks he can take on anything with his fumball alone, but really we haven't seen anything yet. We're going to face some much bigger and stronger enemies than we've encountered on the trip here."
You still think the price for the armor is a bit much, especially considering that it will leave you nearly broke, but your friends' concerns weigh heavily on your mind.
If you've changed your mind and you want armor now, turn to page 38.
If you still don't want any armor, turn to page 50.
