"No thanks on the map," you tell the shopkeeper. "Merlyn's studying and Deke's instinct ought to be enough to get us through."
"Are we ready to leave now?" asks Merlyn. "I'd like to check back at the inn and see if Sharalinda's arrived."
You are ready to go, but Deke is still looking longingly at the bow and arrows on display by the window, and he has been for practically the entire time you've spent in the shop. "I'd really like one," he says quietly. "My father used to have one, for hunting, and he taught me how to shoot. But I've never been able to make one of my own. I know we don't have enough money left for one, and I have nothing of my own, except for my ball. It's really special to me...but maybe I could bring myself to trade it. Renn, do you think I should try to trade my ball for a bow and arrows?"
