"Better to do this without magic," says Deke. "Eat fumball!" And he jumps forward and hurls the fumball at the waterwolf with all his strength.
The ball hits the wolf square in the face, splashing him a bit, but the animal somehow doesn't seem offended. After the ball settles on the ground, the wolf only sniffs it curiously. But, disinterested after the ball has stopped moving for a moment, the wolf turns back to the three of you travelers. If anything, he seems energized and strengthened by the attack with the ball.
"I don't understand it," says Deke, scratching his head.
Merlyn gulps, suddenly. "Um, Deke?" she asks. "Isn't your fumball...full of water?"
"Of course," Deke scoffs. "That's the whole point of the game, after all."
Merlyn sighs. "Water is the wolf's own element," she explains. "Hitting a waterwolf with a ball full of water, and getting it wet, will only make it stronger!"
"Oh." Deke says, not taking his eyes off the wolf, still staring at you all from down the road. Suddenly the wolf snarls, lowers his head, and paws the dirt.
"Well, that's unlucky," Deke continues, as the wolf begins to charge.
