The Story of Shannon and Me
(From here we are and back again...)
Well, I guess it all started way back when in grade 10 (so long ago...). Anyhow, every Valentine's Day, there would be these "Computer Cupid" things that the students would fill out. They'd be sent away somewhere, and the scores (and matches) would be tabulated up. Well, we get them back and it turns out that for the both of us, we were each other's top match.
It was Shannon who first mentioned it to me at that time. So we talked and stuff, and eventually got each other's phone numbers. We talked on the phone for the longest time about stuff, and always said how we should go out and do stuff. But because we were both so shy, nothing happened. Believe it or not, this carried on for nearly two years!
A major turning point occurred in February 2000. I was about to go to my first school formal (incidentially...same day as my 18th birthday...though it doesn't really matter for this story). And I thought "This would be a good time for both Shannon and I to do something together finally.". So I asked her, and for some reason, she didn't go. I didn't take this well, and I figured if she wouldn't go to that with me, maybe she doesn't want to go out with me at all. So I moved on, and started going out with Kristy Minor. Shannon was not impressed to say the least.
That summer, while I was still going with Kristy, Shannon and I started talking again, and some of the times I was home from the cottage, we would actually hang out and do stuff just as friends. It seemed that without the pressure of dating, we could get along better.
Kristy and I never worked out (an entirely different kettle of fish altogether), and by August 2000, we went our separate ways. I had then asked Shannon to go out, and on September 5th, 2000, we started going out for real!
Over the next two plus years, we've done many things: hung out with friends, gone camping, fishing trips, road trips, etc. etc. We haven't let anything break us up, and hopefully, nothing ever will!
