Practice Targets for IPSC/USPSA I am just starting to learn & shoot USPSA matches. This is very different from a normal target range. In this sport the draw is from the holster or off a table. The targets and stages change so you have to be ready for anything. I wanted to get used to the targets and to help train my eyes and to develop a better sight picture in the home (with unloaded handgun) and at my local range. I do not use steel because of weight, and I have to use paper or cardboard at my local range. For the IPSC target I found a drawing in the handbook and used white tag/poster board for the targets. Just measure and cut to size. I used black poster paint for the no shoot zones in many different combinations. The Pepper Popper was made with A FED X poster holder. That is a three sided cardboard used to ship posters. It is 39 inches tall. You will also need a sheet of red tag/posterboard. Use a 12 inch circle for the sweet spot. Measure 11 5/8 inches form the top of the tube, mark the center and glue the circle to it. Now make a 6 inch circle and glue it to the top for the 3 inch half circle. At the range I added 2 rocks for bottom weight and a piece of clothes hanger taped to the box for support ( push it into the ground like a tent peg. For the 6inch square steel I used reg tag/posterboard then glued a toilet paper roll cardboard to the back so it will stand up. So now you have a good set to practice with. Amanda, my daughter helped with the painting and measuring. |
