HANDGUN SHOOTING

MEASURING YOUR PERFORMANCE

CONCEPT:

Tight group shooting is just one way to measure your ability. I found that I needed a way to calculate percentages of hits to the body when shooting for personal protection.

OBJECTIVES:

USE STANDARD TARGET – B-27

USE STANDARD SCORE

EASY TO USE

ABILITY TO DETERMINE WEAK AREAS OF SKILL

TARGET SELECTION:

Standard B-27 Using scores of 3 , 4 , 5 points.

DISTANCES:

3 , 7, 15, 25, 50 yards

AUTHORS COMMENTS:

Over four different days I shot targets both indoors and out. I recorded the following data using the procedures on page two. I used the HI-POINT 9MM C – COMP handgun. Below is a data table with the results and on page three the data is graphed.

This procedure will point out the areas of distance that a person needs to work on. As the data shows, I can achieve 100 Percent Body Hits up to 7 yards (21 feet). Practice is essential, I shot over 400 rounds in four days.

HOW TO CALCULATE:

The B-27 Target can be used for the 3, 4, 5 points scoring.

Place a target at the distance you want to shoot. Make sure you record how many total shots were taken in case you miss the paper. Now shoot the number of rounds.

Calculate as follows:

(example 10 Shots)

Total possible point score = 5 point (max) x number of shots

5 x 10 = 50

Count up your hits on target:

Example

No hits count as zero.

5 points x 6 hits = 30

4 points x 3 hits = 12

3 points x 1 hits = 3

total score 45

Now record in a book:

Ammo used; date; yard ; score

Win 9mm fmj 8/2/99 25 45/50= 90 percent

As you record data you can then graph the results.
