Home Firearm Safety Prerequisites The are no prerequisites for taking this course. Overview A basic course designed for anyone unfamiliar or vaguely familiar with firearms and/or firearm terminology. This course will teach safety, terminology, safe gun handling, identifying and unloading various firearms, ammunition fundamentals, cleaning, and storage. Individuals will also receive some hands-on experience with the most common types of handguns, along with rifles and shotguns. Participants will receive the following published materials with the course - Home Firearm Safety Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules Brochure, and Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure. Requirements Valid Drivers license Ability to legally possess a firearm Course Goal To teach the basic knowledge and skills and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of guns in the home. Lessons/Objectives Rules for Safe Gun Handling Identifying and Unloading Different Firearms Practical Exercises in Safe Gun Handling Types of Ammunition Cleaning and Storage of Firearms Course Completion Upon successful completion, each participant will receive a course completion certificate (suitable for framing). Notes: The course length (4 hours) is the intended time for this course. Total time may be slightly less due to fewer participants and/or the knowledge/experience of individuals. Additional time may be required to meet lesson objectives. There is no fee if additional time is needed to complete the course. |
