Helping Hand
(Present Day; Sunnydale)
The call had shrewdly woken Buffy from a very pleasant dream involving Angel
and chocolate sauce. "Hello," she sighed. "Buffy?" The
hysterical voice blasted into her ear. "Cordelia?" "Yes
Cordelia! Who the hell else would be awake at 3 a.m.!? " “Don’t you have
any one else you can wake up?” “Well I would get Angel if he was still one of
the undead creatures of the night!” “What?” Buffy was now officially more
confused then ever. “What do you mean?” The May queen let out an extremely
pissed off sigh. “I mean” the hysterical woman shrieked into the phone “that
he’s human!” Buffy desperately tried to focus on what was happening.
"What!?" "Buffy you have to come now! He’s not him self, I mean
he is him self only not the Angel him!” “Cordelia you’re making no sense! Is
Angel human or not?!” “Yes! But not like we thought. Buffy please just come and
hurry!”
"I’m on my
way." She set the phone down in shook. Angel her Angel was human. After
all this time he was finally human. Then Cordelias words hit. *He’s not him
self. It didn’t go like we thought.* What didn’t? Was he sick, or hurt? Before
any more horrid ideas could formulate she quickly pulled on a skirt and tank
top garbed her keys and headed for LA. *It’s going to be okay. Every things
going to be okay now. He’s human he got his second chance, he’s going to be
okay, we’re going to be okay.*

(PRESENT DAY; LOS
ANGELES)
She made it to Angel Investigations in under forty minutes. Not surprising when
one is doing 90 on a 55 speed limit.
Once again Cordelias words invaded her mind. “ He’s not him self not Angel.”
“What do you mean he’s
Liam now!?” Buffy was beyond frustration. “I mean that he has no memory of
being Angel, he has no idea who Angel is, and as far as he’s concerned his life
as Angel never happened.” The ex-watcher had spent two hours trying to explain
Angel or Liams lack of memories to the exasperated slayer. He was now beyond
tired of it all. “So what are we suppose to do with him!? It’s no wonder he’s
so scared. I mean imagine waking up with no clue were you are or how you got
there!” “Buffy, I’m aware that your concerned for him but-“ “No! No Wesley, no
buts! No buts, no it’ll all work out, no it’s better this way. Just don’t! I
don’t have the patience to even begin to deal with that.” “Buffy.” Cordelia
looked as stressed as the rest of them. “What is it Cor?” “Buffy, we need to
get him to a doctor, that was kind of part of the reason I called you. His
injuries are really bad. I just thought maybe you could…” Buffy nodded. They
figured that if anyone could get Angel to trust them it would be Buffy. “I’ll
go talk to him.” She nodded and headed for the door. “You guys have my number.
I’ve got to go get some sleep, but if he needs any thing.” “We’ll call ya Cord,
thanks.” Buffy sighed heavily. “Give me a few minutes, and then we’ll see if we
can get him to a doctor.” Wesley nodded. She tiredly headed back to the
basement apartment. “Ang… Liam.” She quietly entered his room and was relieved
to see that he was curled up in the bed sound asleep. *God he looks so young.*
Not wanting to wake him, but knowing there was no other choice she reluctantly
sat down on the bed and gently nudged him. “Mmhhhmm.” He fussed slightly at the
movement but quickly resettled. “Poor thing… Liam.” Again she gently moved him.
“Ang.. Liam, Liam sweety wake up.” “Mhhhhmm.” He quietly fussed again but this
time opened his eyes and looked up at the sound of her voice. *God he has the
most beautiful eyes* She smiled sweetly at him. “Hi there.”
He slowly sat up and
pulled the covers around him tighter. She gingerly ran her fingers over a
particularly bad bruise on his right check. “Do you know who I am?” He shyly
shook his head no. In his mind this was the most exquisitely beautiful girl he
had ever seen. “Okay. My names Buffy. Do you remember who you are?” A slow nod
yes. “Can you tell me?” After a moment. “Liam Angelus O’Shannon.” Buffys heart
ached for him to remember, but now wasn’t the time to push him. "Sweety I
need you to tell me what happened, and how much you remember." Buffy was
doing her best to remain calm. He closed his eyes and sniffed holding back
tears that threatened to fall. "Angel?" Buffy asked softly.
"Angel honey look at me, please." He once again reluctantly opened
his eyes and looked at her. And nearly gasped as he saw the tears streaming
down her own face. *Why is she cryin?* "Honey do you know what happened?
Or where you are?" He shook his head no. *Okay so he has no idea what
happened. Okay first things first.* “Honey did Cordelia and Wesley tell you
anything about what happened?” He looked at her for a moment as if not understanding
the question. But then slowly shook his head yes. Satisfied that he had at
least some clue about what was going on she tried again. Lovingly stroking her
fingers through his hair.
“Listen, I know you
don’t remember, and that’s not your fault but I need you to trust me. You need
a doctor, you were hurt… did Cordila and Wesley tell you about the fight?” He
nodded slightly. “Good…… And you know that this is your home, and Cordila and
Wesley are your friends.” Again a small nod. But something about his look made
her spirits drop again. “But you don’t believe them.” A shake no. She sighed
tiredly. “Okay.” She ideally reached up and brushed his bangs back. “Please, I
know you don’t remember me, but you know your hurt, so please trust me and let
me help you.” He reluctantly looked at her. “Wha da ye want me ta do?” “Let me
take you to a doctor. I promise I won’t let anyone hurt you.” He breathed a
tired sigh but nodded. He knew he was hurt badly whether it was from a fight
like they said or from these witches them selves. So he’d agree to let this
beautiful sorceress take him to a doctor. “Thank you. I will find some way to
fix this, I just need a little time.” Again a small nod.

“Liam how you holdin
up?” He looked at her curiously. *God bu these sorceress speak oddly.* She
caught his unsure look and corrected herself. “I meant how are you feeling.” He
laid his head back down in her lap. “Tired. Me head hurts.” She gently resumed
stroking his head and neck again trying to ease some of the tension and pain.
She and Wesley had some how gotten him out side and into his or Angels black
convertible without to much trouble. He had put up a slight resistance when
they had headed out but once Buffy had laid him down and placed his head gently
in her lap he had almost instantly calmed. “How many hors will it take ta git
there lass?” He asked her softly. “Hours?” She smiled at him sweetly again.
“We’ll be there in about five more minutes.” “Minutes?” He looked up and out
the window and seemed to realize just how fast they were going. She nodded.
“How da ye travel fast so in this…” He couldn’t seem to figure out what to call
the car. “The car.” He nodded even though he wasn’t quite sure what that meant.
“Well, that’ll take a little time to explain so for now why don’t you just lay
down and enjoy the ride, okay.” He nodded slightly again and resettled. Wesley
how we doing up there?” “Hum, oh, fine assuming we can a parking place once
we’re there.” “What are we going to say, I mean about the fact that he has no s
number, or insurance, or doesn’t seem to exist in this time.” She gazed down at
her former lover as he listened curiously to their conversation. “We’ll just
have to come up with something when we get there.” He glanced back at the two
curled up in the back seat. This was going to be a long night.
