Dream 1050
Chapter 2 - Inside

The room was small and took up the entire first floor of the small apartment block. The only privacy it had from the stairwell was a sliding door that looked too flimsy for its huge padlock. Following the young vampire inside, she noted that the bed, basically a mattress on the floor, was a mess of sheets and the floor a mess of pillows and blankets. Books of at least four different languages cluttered the tables along the innermost wall and the windows overlooking the street outside.

"Nice pad." It was sarcastic.

"What do you want?" He snarled.

"What an absolutely ridiculous question. You try to shoot me and now you ask me what I want?" She walked deliberately towards him and he backed away, tripping over a pillow to land heavily on the mattress.

"Alright," she bent over him, noting the open fear in his eyes, "what I want to is some answers."

She straightened and settled herself comfortably on a wooden chair half-draped with an edge of blanket.
"Who are you? Why did you try to shoot me?"

Wiping pink blood-tinged sweat off his forehead, he smiled somewhat shakily.

"A college student, and...you are dangerous to humans."

"The truth, kiddo, the truth."

"It is the tru-"

"It's not. You are a vampire, seemingly of about 200 years in age obviously at least part-Asian and a pretty good shot, though not nearly fast enough."

All throughout her spiel, he had recovered, and now stood at his full height of over six feet, a good head taller than her. Rage knitted his deep reddish-brown eyebrows and made his voice harsh as he yelled,"I am not a 200-year-old baby! I am half a millenium old and I am-"

"A 500-year-old baby." Her voice was even and an eyebrow delicately raised to make him see how immature he was being.

"Who are you anyway?" He said, after a while.

"Well, since we're not exchanging names, a hag twice your age, but currently studying in high school. Again."

"I didn't know you ewre a vampire at first, and I was going to um, rescue you from the, uh, robber," he looked slightly embarrassed and added, "not that you needed any, apparently."

"And then you tried to shoot me because...?"

"Well, it was partly because I was shocked that a vampire could be so lethal, and since you were clearly older and stronger than me, I thought to eliminate a potential threat."

"As it stands, I didn't notice you either. I believe we must be related somehow, or else I could have picked you out at least ten miles off. As for me being a threat, "you have no reason to feel that way until I have you figured out."

She raised an eyebrow and smiled devilishly, "Perhaps I didn't notice you bcause...you have very well-developed mental control, though I quite doubt that. You are too...naive for your age, but I suppose in human terms, you're might be quite a charmer, because you certainly are a looker."

He had been ready to retort viciously, but instead blushed at her last comment. Shifting in her chair to lean an elbow on a bit of cleared table-top, her face took on a thoughtful expression.

"I could be your great-great-grandmother. Hm. Who was your Maker?"
"I can't remember her name, I er, had some problems for awhile, but I could definitely recognise her. She was beautiful. Hair as dark as yours, green eyes."

She froze. The emotion in her voice was barely noticeable as she asked,"Where was she from?"

"France, I think. I remember her speaking French to me. Why?"

"Oh, bloody hell." She articulated, in an aristocratic manner.
