Cars I've had -- Gone but Not Forgotten!

Back in 1973, an ad in Cars & Parts Magazine picturing this '56 Buick Century 4 door hardtop, complete with continental kit, caught my eye.  The pristine 47,000 mile original car was in a Chicago suburb with an asking price of $1,295!  Within 4 days I was on a plane to Chicago, bought the car for $1,200, and drove it back to Long Island.
I guess these '56 Buicks just kept following me home!  This original tri-tone Roadmaster had only 55,000 miles and was equipped with every factory option except the Autronic Eye.  Everybody commented on the colors. It was a standout every place it went.  The car now resides in Germany.
I originally spotted this low mileage '57 Buick Caballero in the car corral at Carlisle around 1981.  It wasn't until a year or so later, however, when an ad appeared in Hemmings, that I actually bought the car.  A rare vehicle indeed, many people had never seen one and had no idea what it was.  Someone even thought it was an ambulance!
In 1974, while I was managing a used car lot, a young fellow pulled in with this very clean '54 Merc convertible.  He had gotten it from his aunt and didn't like it because it wasn't fast enough.  I offered him $500 for the car, which he gleefully accepted.  The first time I brought it to a show, a gentleman offered me around $1,500, which I gleefully accepted -- what a mistake, in retrospect!
I bought this 24,000 mile '49 Packard Deluxe Eight in 1990, to celebrate my 40th birthday.  I was amazed at how smooth and quiet the car was on the road.  It was equipped with a 3 speed manual transmission and overdrive.  But alas -- no radio!  The car was so perfect it belonged in a museum.
During the winter of 1970, I spotted a wrecked '53 El Dorado in the back of a used car lot/junkyard.  The front end was damaged and the car had sat outside for many years.  But it ran well, and it was only $900!  I never quite finished working on it, but it sure did look sharp, and at least I could say I owned one, as only 532 were produced!
